British Teawaland is the name given to the two colonies of British Teawa and British Narshe, which can be found in the Southernmost ocean. The two separate countries were merged as one in 2005, and split into separate states. At present, there are 8 states, with a 9th presently being discussed. Narshe is split into regions- there are presently three; North, Central and South Narshe. The so-called merge came about after the British authorities believed it would be easier to treat the Narsheans and Teawans equally. Previous Governors had preference over the Teawans due to its lush geography and the influx of luxury goods there. This all changed with the induction of Liberal Governor James T Erstweiler.

The people elect governors every 12 years, however a select few refuse to take part in elections- claiming them as nothing more than a “farce” by the British Government. This is more than often not the case- the British Government has always held a policy of “free reign” over the two islands, as they are self-governing. More often than not, the Governors actually make a significant contribution and difference to how the country is run. The Commonwealth of British Teawaland is a small, safe nation, notable for its compulsory military service. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 9 million are fiercely patriotic and enjoy great social equality; they tend to view other, more capitalist countries as somewhat immoral and corrupt; however it is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, socially-minded government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Social Welfare, Defence, and Education. The average income tax rate is 71%, and even higher for the wealthy. Private enterprise is illegal, but for those in the know there is a slick and highly efficient black market in Door-to-door Insurance Sales.

Citizens select which government department gets their income tax pounds each year, the tenet of free speech is held dear, military spending is on the increase, and euthanasia is illegal. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to a well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. British Teawaland's national animal is the wakademu, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the pound.

Unlike Ouerziland, Teawaland’s history has been relatively peaceful. The island itself started off a holiday resort for wealthy British politicians and businessmen. The first city, Korus City, was founded in 1901. Today it is a thriving tourism resort- renowned for the huge casinos and tourism facilities that are all too common in the south of Teawa. The North of Teawa is radically different. Although mainly concerned with mining copper, many people are attracted to Kalarta and Port Daxur- they are widely considered the spiritual centre of the country- the first indigenous tribes were found here by the British settlers.

The present government is seated at Kalarta. However, each state has it’s own capital- see below for more details. The capital of Narshe is Berstrom.

In terms of Policing, every state in the nation has it’s own Police Force. Vigilante groups are also prevalent in the Western states- New Miami boasts the largest Vigilante gang- the “Mercuries”. It is widely believed that the “Mercuries” are responsible for the lack of youth crime in the region. Military service is compulsory, which may also have a contribution to the overall behaviour of the youth population.

Climate

Teawa’s climate is temperate. It is hotter in the south. The hottest recorded temperature was 57 degrees Celsius in the heatwave of 1985.

Narshe sports a wet climate. Monsoon season is between November and March- the rest of the year is very arid and few crops grow.

Elevation Extremes

Mount Ark, in Narshe is the highest point for the two islands. It is roughly 6000 feet high. The lowest point is Orson, in the South Point State.

Natural Resources

Bananas, Livestock (brought over by Anglo-American settlers in the 1910 rush) , Sugar, Tobacco, Uranium, Copper, Mercury, Nickel, Oil and Tin

Natural Hazards

Monsoons, Avalanches and tropical storms in Narshe. Forest Fires and Gale Force winds in Teawa.

Regions and States

In total there are nine states in Teawa. These are all self-governing, but the government in Corson City (formerly Kalarta) has supreme power over all the states. The first state was founded in 1904, and the last state to be founded, Bourne, was split from Frontierwest (then known as the Western Territories) in 1956. Each state is organised by geographical location- for example, Corson City is administered by the Southern Division of Government and Policing. There also two 'free territories'. These are self governing provinces and are separate entities from the rest of the island.

Culture

When the British arrived on the Isle of Teawa, there were around 1000 indigneous people found upon the island- all seeming to be from a Polynesian descent. Around 1,500 Americans and many eastern Europeans from Poland and Belarus also settled on the island. As a result, the culture on Teawa is varied. Within the islands population there is a work ethic- Teawan and Narshean children are taught that hard work is often the key to success. Narshe's population on the other hand, consists mostly of British expatriots- the island consisted of 2500 indigneous peoples when the British discovered it in 1897- it was turned into a penal colony five years later. As a result of the higher population on Narshe, around 75% of the population speak Narshean rather than British English.

Ties between the Mother Country and Teawaland have been strained recently, due to the socialist views of the majority of the island. If no reforms are made, the country may face sanctions, or the present parliament may even be overthrown by the British government. In terms of religion, there is no prescribed worship. Narshe, as a result of it's status as a correctional facility, is mostly protestant but there is a signifcant Catholic population there. The majority of Teawans are agnostic.

Politically speaking, Capitalism is considered evil and this is reflected by the wrecked economy that the country is suffering from. Despite this, not only do the people of the two islands enjoy free healthcare and other state provided facilities, but many are starting to become more pro-Capitalist rather than Socialist. People aged 16 and over have the right to vote.

The country is very laid back- there are usually state carnivals every 6 months as part of the island's tradition. These carnivals usually feature certain aspects of the state's history- for instance, Bourne celebrates it's position as the first state to be seperated from another one with themes of spring and nature.

The Teawans and Narsheans have not always seen eye to eye. Prior to it's present state, Narshe served as a penal colony- an old nickname for it was "Harsh". The more privileged Teawans saw their Narshean counterparts as "uncivillised thugs"- the Narsheans simply got on with their lives, and soon they proved the Teawans wrong by providing a number of great intellects and politicans- Governor Erstwhiler himself hails from Harcon, which is in the east of Narshe.
