The Almighty Empire of Broughdom is a huge but simple nation, which has been around the block a few times. It consists of the founding nation of Broughdom, plus extra "member states" simply known as Broughdom II, III and IV. Read on to learn about it's long history.

The Early Years

Settlers

Settlers came to the area Broughdom was founded on on Friday 28th March 2003. 5 million people flocked to the area from neighbouring nations and Broughdom was born.

First Steps

It was a shaky start for Broughdom, as their leader simply didn't have a clue. However, with the guidance of life-long ally "Anduz" (a nation still in existence today), Broughdom came through the first steps of nation-hood in great shape for the future. It moved out of the North Pacific under the advice of Anduz, and moved to a region entitled, "ihateeveryonebutmyfriends" which consisted of Anduz and another now long gone nation. Fun times were had by all, and Broughdom generally took it easy for a few weeks.

Ambitions

After joining the U.N. and getting Anduz the delegacy of his own region, things started to get slightly repetetive and boring. The ambitious people of Broughdom wanted more, so Broughdom left "ihateeveryonebutmyfriends" and created its own region, "Hartlepool". Broughdom encouraged fellow new nations to join the region, and it was quite successful for a while, peaking at around 11 nations.

Regional Flop

The success of "Hartlepool" was short lived however, as interest dropped and other nations died out due to inactivity. It was felt that the region wasn't the best prospect and that new nations wouldn't want to join, due to it's boring name and the links it has with a town of same name in the North East of England with the highest teenage pregnancy rate in the UK.

The True Beginning

Something new was needed, and after a while Broughdom left Hartlepool to become a toxic waste dump and created another region. This region would turn out to be the stepping stone that sent Broughdom on a wild ride around the Nationstates world, allowing new alliances to be formed, region defending duties to be created, and lots of new friends to be made. This new region would be the true beginning of Broughdom's life in the Nationstates world. But first and most importantly of all, a catchy name would be needed...

The Worlds Stronghold

The Foundations

The Worlds Stronghold was founded sometime during the summer of 2003. The name was decided upon by the people of Broughdom from a list of two. 50% of the population voted in favour of "The Worlds Stronghold" and because the other half didn't bother voting, it was considered the winner. Nobody knows what the name means, or who came up with it and just how it was created, but it stuck and Broughdom moved there immediately, enjoying once again the feeling of founding a new region.

Tough Times

The hardest part to creating any new region is undoubtedly attracting new nations to it. Broughdom no longer had help from new neigbouring nations which had all died out, and Anduz was too busy with his own region to help in a great way. Some tips were issued though, and are sometimes still used today when recruiting. One of these tips was to send a recruitment message to all the nations on the U.N. page who had been recently allowed into the U.N. Most of the new nations who came to TWS (acronym for The Worlds Stronghold) came from using this method of recruitment. This is illegal now as nations can only be recruited from the pacifics. Even using this tip, it was a long time before Broughdom managed to get together enough nations to keep TWS running as a fully functioning region. The maximum amount of nations was around 10 for a very long time, but it was enough to get TWS up and running.

Community

Even from the early days with 10 or so member nations, it could be seen that TWS was going to be a place with a great community. The TWS Civil Headquarters (known then as the Regional Message Board) was always bustling with activity, usually consisting of weekly discussions on news issues around the real life world. A notable nation which was around TWS for a long time, right from near to it's beginning to a long way into it's life was "Olduncdom". This nation played a great part in getting the community spirit in TWS going and, along with Broughdom and the other handful of nations at the time, helped keep everyone entertained with discussion topics and opinions. "Olduncdom" sadly left the NS world in 2004 due to it's whole population growing bald and dying of old age.

Success

With continued efforts from Broughdom, who would not allow TWS to go the way of "Hartlepool", the population started to creep up. More nations came and started contributing to the community. When the amount of nations was at around 25, things started to get much more interesting. A few nations would enter the TWS community and change it forever. At this point, it is worth listing the names of the truly great nations to have been a part of TWS in it's early stages:

  • 639
  • ATiS (All That is Stupid)
  • Aylandlandfive
  • Simoleans
  • Arfon
  • Chin-Chilla

These were the original Admin of TWS. Along with Broughdom, these nations shaped and moulded TWS into a great region that went on to achieve great things in the NS world. The most notable success that TWS had was being the founder region to an organisation which consisted of a crack team of defender nations which in it's high point was the best defender organisation in the whole NS world. Welcome to the Emergency Auxiliary Army.

The EAA

Damn Morales

After being around the NS world for a while, Broughdom knew a bit about what went on. Something that didn't seem to agree with the populations way of thinking was the fact that some regions in the NS world would purposefully go into a region and take it over, siezing the delegacy and ejecting the native nations. After talking it over with the rest of the TWS admin, it was agreed that something should be done about it, and the Emergency Auxiliary Army (The EAA) was formed. At first it was just meant to be the army of TWS, but when Chin-Chilla mentioned links with his old region "Peaceian" and Aylandlandfive spoke of his old region "Celtic Warrior", it soon became a multi-regional defender group.

Efficiency

The EAA was known for it's quick desicive action and this was down to the early admin. Broughdom became Commander-in-Chief with 639 his deputy. ATiS was in charge of the Website and Forum, Simoleans was Press Officer, Chin-Chilla became head of Foriegn Relations and Aylandlandfive was head of Intelligence. Arfon, who was such a prominent member in the TWS community, left just after the EAA was created and unfortunately was not there during it's times of greatness. Aylandlandfive went back to his old region of Celtic Warrior to keep that running and Chin-Chilla did the same with Peaceian. TWS, Celtic Warrior and Peaceian were the first three member regions of the EAA, and with each region leader being part of the EAA Admin, an extremely fast and efficient system was in place which allowed the military nations of each region to quickly move into a region, get rid of the invaders, secure it for the natives, and get back to their original regions within a few days.

Expansion

After many successful defences, Broughdom, the main protagonist in the running of the EAA, decided to take a back seat and concentrate on TWS again and it's relations with the EAA. Broughdom made TWS grow and continued to support the EAA in every way possible, but was no longer Commander-in-Chief, which was passed on to 639. Broughdom enjoyed this set-up for a while, keeping the very strong alliances with Peaceian and Celtic Warrior alive, and helping the EAA with everything they were doing. The EAA started to become a true force in the NS world with the addition of a few more member regions which brought lots more nations to use to defend. At it's highest point, the EAA consisted of 6 member regions with well over 500 nations, ready to go into battle whenever needed, quickly and efficiently. The EAA became a feared force to all raider groups.

Death, Ressurection and Growth

Death

At around the same time the EAA became a great force in NS, the population of Broughdom decided they were sick of the place and wanted a holiday. This caused the whole population to leave without notice. Broughdom died out due to inactivity some time during the winter of 2005. This left TWS without a leader, and the EAA without a nation that had been such a strong arm during it's creation and maintenance. The EAA lost it's efficiency, and many nations lost interest in the EAA. It stopped functioning properly when more Admin nations such as 639 and ATiS left, and the damage was irrepairable. The EAA closed it's doors during early 2006. It's member nations went their seperate ways. Peaceian continued the defensive effort, setting up it's own moderately successful army, as did Celtic Warrior, both under the guidance of Chin-Chilla and Aylandlandfive respectively. Anduz, the once great nation which had been an ally of Broughdom for so long also died out at some point during this period of time. TWS grew stale. With it's nations leaving for Celtic Warrior and Peaceian, and with no leader, TWS hit a low of around 4 or 5 nations. Broughdom was gone. Or so it seemed.

Ressurection

Shortly after the death of the EAA, the entire population of Broughdom returned from their holiday all at once, and the great nation was ressurected to it's former glory. Things were not as they had been though. TWS was in a terrible state and Broughdom had no more nations it knew or trusted left in it's own region. It immediately went to it's closest allies, Chin-Chilla and Aylandlandfive, and quickly learned how the EAA had fallen, and where everyone had gone. Contemplating on it's future for a long time, nothing much happened around Broughdom. Until one day when it was decided that TWS would not be given up on, and it would be great once again. Broughdom immediately started recruiting new nations, just like before. The cycle of life of TWS had been completed, and was starting all over again, with a vastly more experienced leader at the helm. Long term ally Anduz returned, and finally joined TWS, becoming delegate and helping Broughdom to recruit new members.

Growth

During this time, it was apparent that Broughdom was not big enough for it's vast population, and it's first "state" was created. The U.N. State of Broughdom II became the U.N. Nation that Broughdom would rely on in future defence missions, now that the delegacy of TWS was secured by Anduz returning. A second member state was created, now known as "The Wise State of Broughdom III" which is founder of "The TWS Garden", a region used for TWS residents to chill out. The third member state and youngest state in the Broughdom line is "The Small State of Broughdom IV" used for scouting operations and general dilly-dallying. Talk of a fourth member state has been floating about, but nothing has been finalised. These member states have made Broughdom a powerful force in NS, with a combined population of around 20 Billion people.

Current Status

Broughdom is once again striving to become a known force in the NS world. A new TWS forum has been created and recruiting for TWS is still going. Anduz is still in TWS, although not as active as before. The main nation that has kept TWS going through some bad times of inactivity is "Broken Bottle" who is currently the only other Admin nation of TWS alongside Broughdom. It is thought that Broken Bottle will be a great asset in future.

Broughdom is once again moulding it's beloved region into a defender group, with a large network set-up ready to be put into operation. All that is needed now is nations to fill in the many positions available.

Broughdom continues to thrive in the Nationstates world, and always will.

The 9 Billion population party should also be fun.
