The Free Land of CTerryland is a large, safe nation, remarkable for its devotion to social welfare. Its compassionate, hard-working population of 23 million enjoy extensive civil freedoms, particularly in social issues, while business tends to be more regulated.
The government -- a sprawling, bureaucracy-choked, liberal morass -- juggles the competing demands of Social Welfare, Healthcare, and Education. The average income tax rate is 36%, but much higher for the wealthy. A large private sector is led by the Book Publishing industry, followed by Gambling and Arms Manufacturing.
Euthanasia is legal, scenic mountain valleys are flooded with water as damming projects get underway, scientists recently cloned the long-extinct feather-bellied mighty penguin, and pharmacies close down as medicinal drugs are sold freely by the government. Crime is well under control. CTerryland's national animal is the mighty penguin, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the dude.
CTerryland is currently categorised by the UN as a 'Left Leaning College State' and is a member of the UN.
Political Theory
The Free Land of CTerryland self-identifies to the political left on social issues. We in CTerryland believe strongly in prevention of crime by removing inequality. However we also believe that the restriction of business is ultimately antagonistic towards a strong economy. We believe that a strong economy is necessary in order to have the resources to help the less well off. Therefore in terms of social policy we adopt a left wing stance, with a centrist stance adopted economically, we lean neither leftwards or rightwards. We try to keep taxation in the 35% to 45% bracket, we are against trade unions, but for tariffs and minimum wage laws. We take a mixed view towards the environment. When CTerryland was offered the chance to bulldoze it's rainforest in order to mine uranium we decided to bulldoze only part of the rainforest, helping our economy and keeping what we had of the environment. We believe in small military and at every available opportunity we strip our military back. CTerryland is not a warlike nation, preferring to mix political neutrality with the authority of the UN.
Politicians
CTerryland is ruled by an elected single chamber Parliament elected by Alternative Vote+ for the legislative section. This is headed by a government consisting of the 'Radical Party'. The Executive is headed by a directly elected President, the current President being CTerryland's founding father CTerry himself. There is also a supreme court. The President selects the Cabinet from the largest party in the Parliament, currently that is the 'Radical Party'. The cabinet is as follows:

The Supreme Court is selected by the President on the recommendation of the Prime Minister, subject to approval by Parliament. Judges sit until they retire (by choice).
Culture
The citizens of CTerryland are largely atheist, though there is a small community of religious people. Citizens believe heavily in non-interference. The citizens speak English. Rock music (especially Prog Rock) and black comedy are favourites of the citizens, and tabloid newspapers are looked down upon. Political satire is widespread, and the citizens are known to be heavily sarcastic.
