The Republic of Caledone is a large, safe nation, remarkable for its punitive income tax rates. Its compassionate population of 36 million are fiercely patriotic and enjoy great social equality; they tend to view other, more capitalist countries as somewhat immoral and corrupt.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, socially-minded government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Education, Social Welfare, and Law & Order. The average income tax rate is 100%. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising fourteen-year-old boys selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out.

Long arduous trials are held for the most trivial of offences, torture is illegal, Caledone's educational system is the envy of many and regarded as a pinnacle of educational achievement, and libraries are now installed with jacuzzis and mini-bars. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Caledone's national animal is the dolphin, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the token.

Caledone is ranked 17th in the region and 118,337th in the world for Largest Trout Fishing Sector.

Current Issues: Believing it to be undesireable for taxpayers to fund an expensive and potentially fruitless space exploration programme, the parliament of Caledone decided that it would be best to offer the programme to private industry; not something that happens very often in the country's mainly state-run economy. Unfortunately, to the great distaste of our citizens, the powerful multi-national soft-drinks producer, Pepsi, got the rights to the project, resulting in a 'soda-bottle' shaped rocket.
