Overview

The Camelot Wasps franchise were participants in the now defunct Rugby Premier League. As of the 2007 rugby season they will be apart of the PopularFreedom Rugby League.

History

  • The Camelot Wasps existence is as a direct result of the demise of the Camelot Sentry expansion franchise granted to the town by the PopularFreedom Rugby League in 2005. Organizers of the Sentry expansion team, unhappy with the way their franchise was given instead to Locke Harbour South, worked tirelessly throughout the latter part of 2005 to organize themselves, the Sacredicity Saints, and the Brunstone Avalanche into a group of rugby teams which got together with other rugby nations to form the Rugby Premier League.
  • In 2006, the three PopularFreedom teams in the now defunct Rugby Premier League joined the PopularFreedom Rugby League for the 2007 season.
  • In 2007, the Wasps were able to completely dominate tier 2, winning 10 of their 12 matches and capturing 1st place to propel them to tier 1 for the 2008 season.
  • The Camelot Wasps represented the nation in the 6th edition of the Rugby World Cup. They were able to win their division before losing in the 1st round of the playoffs.
