Carops is a large, somewhat politically-oppressive state, which lies in the region of Liberalia. Arriving in WWSETI in August 2005, Carops was a founding member of the Parliamentary Democracy system founded in the region at this time. On 5th November 2005, Carops was elected as the first Prime Minister of WWSETI, as head of the Centrist Party of WWSETI. Since this, Carops moulded the region towards Centrist principles and also gone on to found the NS Centrist Party, which currently has a number of branches in several regions. However, Following the successful "Christmas Revolution" of 20th December 2005, Carops became a resident of Liberalia, one of many nations leaving what became a dictatorship in their mother region.

History

Carops' term as prime minister of WWSETI was met with controversy and praise in equal measure. Many do not agree with his "elected dictator" style of governance, claiming that he acts in his own interests too often. Carops' rule depends exclusively on a coalition of Socialist and Communist allies, without whom, Centrist rule of WWSETI would end quickly. As such, the Centrist administration must regularly appease its allies to keep its position. With his deputy party leader and right-hand man, Ardalia, Carops has been responsible for most laws passed in WWSETI, heavily influencing the region in a number of ways. The Carops regime advocated a staunchly Pro-Nasicournian foreign policy, issuing its vocal support to this region following the declaration of war made upon Nasicournia by the People's Republic of the Pacific. Carops was the Prime Minister to take the first steps into making WWSETI an ADN region, applying to Pope Hope for membership. These issues were not supported by some in WWSETI, who felt that these measures would aggreviate the Pacific, who were at the time searching for Nasicournian-allied regions to pick off and remove. The Carops government also significantly focused its efforts on making alliances and improving diplomatic relations with other Centrist regions. However, on 17th December, what became known as "The Schism" began. A number of WWSETI's aged and outdated forum Admins, unhappy at the lack of power they had in the new democratic government, began to actively limit Prime Ministerial power and damage the position of the government. Posts across the regional forum were altered or deleted, and when the PM showed his displeasure at this, there was an outpouring of anger from the administrators, and the result was the departure of the democratic government from the region. These nations went on to found the region of Liberalia, where they set up a new government.

Methods of Government

Carops' rule of WWSETI was intriguing in a number of ways. The principles by which the Centrist Party of WWSETI governed the region were often unclear and contradictory of one another. Perhaps the best analysis of Centrist rule was made by a foreign observor, "The Centrists seem to want to provide relief to masses, while standing up for the individual. They value independence and freedom, while treating any misbehaviour very seriously." The Centrists also came into conflict with their regional intelligence services in a number of ways, claiming that they were "over-zealous" in checking on member nations. The Centrists eventually claimed victory, having successfully raised enough support to have the WWSETI regional password removed. Tension remained between the administration and the Intelligence directors for some time. Carops' rule was criticised for not being inclusive to Conservatives in the region. In preparation for his re-election campaign, Carops announced a "purge" of Conservative ministers from government once he was re-elected. This caused considerable outrage in WWSETI and led to some feeling that they were being persecuted. The Centrists dismissed these complaints as unimportant.

Liberalia

Carops led the "Christmas Revolution" of nations from WWSETI,following the collapse of democracy in the region and the establishment of a dictatorship in that region. He founded the region of Liberalia on 20th December 2005, which outgrew WWSETI in a matter of days. Liberalia has become a prosperous and respected region, with many international ties in the NS world. Prime Minister Carops was re-elected on 1st January 2006 with a larger majority than ever and will stand for a further two months. Having set up all the government structures in Liberalia, including the psychodelic forum, Carops apparently intends to sit back, put his feet up, and enjoy a well-earned rest once he gets 250 nations in Liberalia... Some have said he sets unachieveable goals...

The Nation

Carops as a nation is a strange creature. With a vast and complex history spanning sveral millenia, the earlier annals of Caropsyne history follow the stories of invasions by numerous seaf-faring peoples into the nation. The first of these was that of the Pelsai, a maritime people who settled Carops to take advantage of the high fertility of its soil. They interacted with the indigenous people of the nation and eventually became its rulers, forming a number of "Vaelcs" (dominions) in the area which would eventually become Carops. Many notable Pelsai kings lived during this period, including Gedethena, Firnan, Gehûn, and Kartt. The Pelsai Vaelcs, Gingar, Droganl, Sanche and Takann, were petty states which conflicted and warred regularly, leading to a certain instability. All this changed around 3570 years before the Garel Rebellion, an event by which all Caropsyne dates are measured. A fifth Vaelc, Bevenn, was founded by Gehûn, the greatest Pelsai warrior king to have lived for over a millenium. This new kingdom was large and poor, considered by many other the other Vaelcs to be a dangerous neighbour. Its first ruler came into conflict with Kartt, Lord of Gingar, who was attempting to untie all Pelsai lands under his dominion. Before Kartt, Aeblean, King of Ginagr had tried this before and failed. A subsequent war between Gingar and the people of Sanche, Droganl and Takann. However, Kartt's father Gols, united the four original Vaelcs under one leadership. His efforts were damaged when the vassal king of Droganl, Firnan, broke away, leaving three nations in Carops, Carops, Droganl, and Bevenn. It was shortly after this that the history of the Pelsai in Carops ends. The Lindite people, from unknown origins, arrived and settled on the coasts of Carops. They were a militarily advanced nation and quickly came into conflict with the Pelsai. Unfortunately at this time, however, the Pelsai failed to present a united front. Kartt foolishly took the decision to use a congress of the Pelsai kings in Gingar as an opportunity to murder Gehûn's son, Gehûn The Younger, who he saw as more of a threat than the Lindites. However, the Lindites quickly overran Droganl, toppling and killing King Firnan, scattering his people far and wide. Kartt had refused his assistance to the Droganless king. Had he offered it, perhaps Pelsai dominon over Carops would have survived. Gingarian Carops survived a further 20 years before Kartt was killed at the Battle of Gingar, where all of Pelsai Carops fell to the invaders. The Lindites, under their King, Othaeglin, took control of the nation. Othaeglin died soon after this and was replaced by Othaldon, who preceeded to found Fornænda, which would eventually become the capital city of Carops. Othaldon's rule was long and peaceful, but that of his successor, Thoglin, was not. Thoglin was an oppressive and unjsut ruler, overthrow after a riot engulfed Fornænda, his own servants eventually cutting his throat. His successor was Odil, whose descendents still occupy the throne today. See (House of Sturmare). During the first centuries of Lindite rule, Phetts from the isle of Inopola came a successfully settled much of Carops, mixing with the allready varied population. Phetts came to make up an equal number of citizens to Lindites, causing some disquiet among the ruling classes. Phett literature and learning led to a further cultural advancement in Carops. The Phetts built the grand city of Ariatra during this time. For another three milennia, the peoples of Carops grew together, to create one of the most diverse and complex of world cultures. Many different developments created a unique and fascinating state that is Carops today. The Kingdom hit another problem when the Garel Rebellion took place. Garel, High Warden of the Goranfost, and hence a hereditary lord, led an amry of disgruntled Kessites, and Klyunni tribesmena against the monarchy. He succeeded in imprisoning the King, Ogilin. This rebellio saw the greatest loss of life ever recorded in Carops. However, it was eventually overthrow by Ogilin , who restored the rule of law shortly before his death. His son, Aeclin remains the current King of Carops. His reign has been long and secure.

Culture and Climate of Carops

Carops is a mostly temperate country, with continental summers and cold winters, however the south of the country can regularly become somewhat arid during the summer. Architecture in Carops is generally varied and unique. Much of it follows a mediterranean style, with many Phett coastal cities built primarilly from sandstone. Carops is one of the most prudish nations in Liberalia. The country is religiously and socially conservative, with little time or effort devoted to tolerance or understanding other cultures, as the population generally considers itself to be culturally-superior. Traditional folkwear is worn in many areas of the nation and "modern" clothing, especially worn by women, is often dismissed as too revealing. Carops' religious authorities, the Prelatures, are partially responsible for law and order in the nation. As such, there is a certain moralistic stance on law.
