Originally a nation of warring Slavic tribes, elements of both German and Celtic tribes filtered in through the northwestern borders and settled near the seaports, founding what is now the capital city of Gotha. From the southern borders, through warm water ports, Spanish traders settled in the nation, forcing a sort of renaissance on the dark and repressed Slavic tribes in the early 15th century. Currently the Germano-Celtic populations, which intermarried so heavily they are nearly indistinguishable now, and the Spanish settlers make up a near-10% minority of the People's Republic of Caselonia today. In 1915, after over 300 years of anarchy and monarchy by descendants of Arkadiy the Conqueror, Vyacheslav Grigorievich Polezhaev led his Revolutionary Socialist Party in a national uprising which threw the weakened monarchy into disarray. Within two weeks the monarch, Tsar Leonid XII, had abdicated the throne and a provisional government was established. Within a year the Socialist Revolutionaries had seized complete control of the government, forming a one-party State. Two substantial wars followed, and though victorious in the War of Preservation, a fight for the very survival of the Caselonian republic, decades of economic hardship ensued. Starting in the late 1980s economic and social reforms began that transformed the nation into the economic machine that it is today. Parties other than the Caselonian Socialist Party were outlawed until late 2003 when current President Eamon McGinnis, a member of the small Celtic minority in Caselonia, legalized opposition parties, even opening the People's Assembly to them. Elections have been scheduled and postponed three times due to both internal and external security threats, but are expected to take place in early November 2004.

Caselonia and its surrounding territories are located in eastern Fuerza. With such varying landscapes as decidious forests, grasslands, deserts, mountain ranges and tundras, the areas making up ancient Caselonia are as varied as the peoples who reside there.

Ancient Caselonia once comprised all of the modern Caselonian Soviet Federated Socialist Republic, the Democratic Republic of Melbournistan and the Soviet Socialist Republic of Palmbekistan, even into parts of what is now modern Ferrussia, Ferretatia and Daemoniata. While majority Russian and other Slavonic stock in ethnic makeup, the region is also home to people of Germanic, Celtic and even Arab and Persian stock. Trade routes between the many republics in eastern and central Fuerza are documented as far back as the beginning of written history in the area, and despite some current political tensions, the peoples of the two continents have written a joint history throughout many millennia.
