Danaan Ministry for Justice
The Danaan Ministry for Justice was a Cabinet ministry in the national government of the Danaan High Kingdom before it was dissolved into the Confederated Peoples. The duties of the Ministry for Justice included enforcing the law, advising the High King with regard to those law enforcement powers attached directly to the Crown and prosecuting suspected criminals in the courts of law. In addition, the ministry represented the legal interests of Danaan citizens overseas in cooperation with the Ministry for Cooperation and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and combated piracy, smuggling, and other crimes committed in international waters in cooperation with the Ministry for Defense, the Ministry for Coordination and the Coast Guard. The ministry combated international organized crime and international trafficking in persons in cooperation with the Ministry for Intelligence and the Ministry for Coordination. In addition to heading the Ministry for Justice, the Danaan Minister for Justice was also the chairperson of the Standing Parliamentary Committee on the Judiciary.

History
The Office of the Attorney General was established by High Queen Corrina in 1539 as the chief lawyer of the Crown. In 1735, the Attorney General was moved from the High Queen's Court to the Cabinet, which was, by this time, well on its way to becoming a Parliamentary Cabinet in the modern sense. However, the Attorney General was considered a lesser member of the Cabinet and not a minister coequal with the other ministers.
The Ministry for Justice, properly speaking, was not established until the Cabinet Act of 1938, which, among other reforms, created a Ministry for Justice, equal to the other Cabinet ministries, to be headed by a member of Parliament selected by the same procedures and on the same basis as the other Cabinet ministers. The Office of the Attorney General and several other government organizations pertaining to legal matters were all made departments of the ministry, under the authority of the minister and the permanent secretary.
