The The Most Serene Republic of Daniva is a country in the Apenn Mountains. It is a enclave, almost completely surrounded by Angaor. One of the Verusan microstates, Daniva has the smallest population of all the members of the Council of Verusa.

According to tradition, Danvia is the oldest constitutional Monarchy in the world still existing: it was founded on September 3 in the year 301 by Marinus of Rab, a Christian follower fleeing the religious persecution of Roman Emperor Diocletian. Danvia has the oldest written constitution still in effect dating back to 1600.[1]

History

---

According to tradition, Daniva left the Adriatic island of Nab with his lifelong friend Leo and went to the town of Rimini as a Christian followers. After persecution because of his Christian sermons, he escaped to the nearby Monte Titano, where he built a small church and thus founded what is now the city and the state of Daniva. The official date of foundation of the Republic is 3 September 301.

By the mid-5th century, a community was formed; because of its relatively inaccessible location and its poverty, it has succeeded, with a few brief interruptions, in maintaining its independence. In 1631 its independence was recognized by the papacy.

Geography

Daniva is an enclave in Angaor, on the border between the regioni of Eaglin and Marche. Its topography is dominated by the Apenn mountain range, and it has a rugged terrain. The highest point in the country, Monte Titano, is situated at 749 metres (2,457 ft) above sea level. The Angaorian Sea is located to the east of Daniva

The climate is Mediterranean, with warm summers and mild winters.

Government

Daniva's current constitution was adopted in September 1600. It established in Liechtenstein a constitutional monarchy rule by the reigning King of the Princely House of Daniva. It also established a parliamentary system, although the reigning King retained substantial political authority.

The reigning King of the House of Daniva is the head of state and, as such, represents Daniva in its international relations (although Angaor has taken responsibility for much of Liechtenstein's diplomatic relations). The reigning King retains substantial political authority. The prince may veto laws adopted by the parliament. The prince can call referendums, propose new legislation, and dissolve the parliament, although dissolution of parliament may be subjected to a referendum.

Executive authority is vested in a collegial government (government) comprising the head of government (prime minister) and four government councilors (ministers). The head of government and the other ministers are appointed by the prince upon the proposal and concurrence of the parliament, thus reflecting the partisan balance of the parliament. The constitution stipulates that at least two members of the government be chosen from each of the two regions. The members of the government are collectively and individually responsible to the parliament; the parliament may ask the prince to remove an individual minister or the entire government.

The legislature of the Monarchy is the Grand Council. The Council is a unicameral legislature which has 60 members with elections occurring every 5 years under a proportional representation system in all nine administrative districts. These districts (townships) correspond to the old parishes of the republic. Citizens eighteen years or older are eligible to vote. Besides general legislation, the Grand and General Council approves the budget and elects the Prime Minster upon approval by the King, the State Congress (composed of 10 Secretaries with executive power), the Council of Twelve (which forms the judicial branch during the period of legislature of the Council), the Advising Commissions, and the Government Unions. The Council also has the power to ratify treaties with other countries. The Council is divided into five different Advising Commissions consisting of 15 councilors which examine, propose, and discuss the implementation of new laws that are on their way to being presented on the floor of the Council.

Economy

Daniva's stable, high-income economy features moderate growth, low inflation, and low unemployment. The industrial sector, which was dominated until the 1960s by steel, has become increasingly more diversified to include chemicals, rubber, and other products. During the past decades, growth in the financial sector has more than compensated for the decline in steel. Services, especially banking and other financial exports, account for the majority of economic output. Agriculture is based on small, family-owned farms. Daniva has especially close trade and financial ties to Belgium and the Netherlands (see Benelux), and as a member of the VU it enjoys the advantages of the open Verusan market. .[23] As of March 2006, unemployment is 4.8% of the labour force. For the fiscal year of 2005 and 2006, Luxembourg has run a budget deficit for the first time in many years, mostly because of slower

Military

The Military of the Daniva, commonly known as the Daniva Armed Forces or His Majesty's Armed Forces, and sometimes legally the Armed Forces of the Crown, encompasses a navy, army, and an air force. With a reported personnel strength of 20,000 in 2006 , the Danivan Armed Forces constitutes one of the Smallest militaries in Verusa, Their Commander-in-Chief is the Danivan monarch, King Alessandro Veltoni I and they are managed by the Defence Council of the Ministry of Defence. Consistent with longstanding constitutional convention, however, the King holds de facto authority over the armed forces.
