The Republic of Demantlieu is a small, safe nation, notable for its barren, inhospitable landscape. Its compassionate population of 12 million enjoy extensive civil rights and enjoy a level of social equality free from the usual accompanying government corruption.
The enormous, liberal, socially-minded government juggles the competing demands of Social Welfare, Education, and Healthcare. The average income tax rate is 34%, but much higher for the wealthy. A healthy private sector is led by the Woodchip Exports, Arms Manufacturing, and Furniture Restoration industries.
The mining industry is making inroads into environmentally sensitive areas, organ donation rates are among the lowest in the region, political parties are banned from advertising and receiving private donations, and euthanasia is legal. Crime is well under control. Demantlieu's national animal is the crane, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the Deneb.
The Republic only recently won it's freedom, overthrowing the previously sacrosanct socialist dictatorship. While their government is still getting settled, the future looks promising.
