The Despotic Dictatorship of Despoticania is a massive, economically powerful nation, notable for its punitive income tax rates. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 2.292 billion are rabid consumers, partly through choice and partly because the government tells them to and dissenters tend to vanish from their homes at night.
It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Law & Order, and Commerce. The average income tax rate is 100%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Automobile Manufacturing industry, followed by Arms Manufacturing and Beef-Based Agriculture.
Students are known to arrive at school in their pyjamas, the commercialisation of highly deadly weapons has instilled Despoticania with a very polite populace, eight year-olds can be seen lighting up in public areas, and protesters are up in arms over new nuclear power stations. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Despoticania's national animal is the Pig, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the Despollar.
History and politics
Despoticania was founded in 2006 AD by a group of political dissidents from all over the world. After securing a large, remote island as their base, they started to spread their influence over the nearby periphery regions. Now Despoticania is a large and powerful nation, ruled with an iron fist by a mysterious figure known only as "The Despot". While the Despot claims to be a benevolent dictator, the nation spends enormous amounts of money to defence, law and order, and the government constantly tightens its grip of the citizens.
Soon after rising to power, the mysterious Despot joined the Alliance of Dictators, since he thought it would be good to have allies during these dictator-hostile times. Although democracy now flourishes in most parts of the world, Despoticania's government believes it to be only a temporary boom, which soon dies and gives the world back to the only true form of government: dictatorship...
While Despoticania is one of the most authoritarian nations in Alliance of Dictators, the citizens enjoy a hight standard of living, thaks to innovative policies in education and public healthcare system. Despoticania is also a home to many big corporations, which work closely with the government, and currently the nation has the lowest unemployment in the whole region (estimated employment rate is more than 99%). Crime is also almost nonexistent, as major settlements and streets are under constant police surveillance and every citizen has a special microchip implanted in his/her body. This microchip can be used to track any person's movements and locate him/her anywhere inside Despoticania's borders.
The Despot
Not much is known about the mysterious Despot, ruler of the Despotic Dictatorship of Despoticania.
The Despot is a mystery, both to the foreign intelligence angencies and his own people. Nobody knows his real name or birthdate, but he seems to be in his late forties or early fifties. Analyzing his age is made harder by the fact that he ALWAYS wears sunglasses and black military cap. The Despot himself claims that his age or background are not important, as he is on a mission to restore the World under perfect, Dictatorship government, which is waiting for right time to seize power and claim global domination. Some believe that the Despot is part of such secret societies as the Illuminati or the Freemasons. This has not been confirmed, however. (The Despot himself claims that the truth about his possible membership in such societies is not important, as he is on a mission...)
The Despot is the current War Minister of AoD.
