The Plains of Dioxin gained nationhood on February 1st, 2003.

DRESSED IN A LANDSCAPE OF VERDANT PASTURES, vineyards and lazy waterways, it is easy to imagine Dioxin as an essentially pastoral nation. Many of the numerous tourists who idle away their vacation on Dioxin’s beaches are surprised to discover that medical research and technological development account for more than 30% of the country’s GDP.

Central to Dioxin’s administration is the City of Pael. Founded by the Knights Templar in the time of Richard I, the metropolis of Pael has developed from a secluded staging post to one of the world’s largest commercial and industrial centres. Not only a nexus of the financial world, but also a favourite location for conferences and symposia, the many banquet halls and acclaimed hotels of Pael frequently boast an impressive international guest-list.

The three main goals of Dioxin’s administration are the continued development of the educational system; protection of the environment, and the provision of a fair and equitable living standard for all Dioxites. Lead by the current Prefect of Dioxin – the nation’s Head of State, the democratically-elected government – The Snood - sit in Dioxin’s historical Parliament Buildings. Members of the public may view sittings of The Snood from the flying buttresses of the public gallery.

Apart from a vibrant city night-life – much enjoyed by both locals and tourists – Pael acts as the information hub for Dioxin’s world-famous university network. Due to the benefits of technology, students from around the nation are able to receive a broad range of higher education services completely free of charge. Dioxin’s other regional capital cities: HowHow, in the mountains, Gnome, on the Delta, Latte, Prudence and Sethport in the central flatlands, form a bustling pentagon of commercial enterprise and cultural activity.

The cost of living can be higher here than in neighbouring nations, but most Dioxites would not dream of living anywhere else. As Blunt Malley, a noted Pael Historian and Linguist says: “There really is no place like Gnome.”
