History

Founding

Disorganized Ski Bums was founded by Remar Halzifar, widely known as Remar the Brave, in 1156. During the Second Crusade, in 1147, Remar, only 19 at the time, fought under future Holy Roman Emperor Frederick I in the forces of Conrad III. Despite his youth, Remar quickly emerged as an outstanding fighter, with both physical skills and a tactical mind. He quickly rose to become the unquestioned leader of a group of soldiers from and around his home village near present-day Innsbruck. Although the campaign was a failure, by its end Remar had distinguished himself with his excellent leadership and astounding bravery, which some even claimed was foolish, so much so that Frederick himself commended the young fighter.

When the crusade was over, Remar returned to his village, but he was not forgotten by Frederick. Shortly after Frederick became Holy Roman Emperor in 1155, on February 7, 1156, Frederick rewarded Remar by awarding him a Duchy in the Eastern Alps and a position on the council of princes.
