History

The Preparation

The Preparation consisted of 237 years of gathering resources and the building of the Great fleet to begin the Great Journey.

The Great Journey

Drakcon Empire and its people left Earth and began what became know as the Great Journey to find a new home, this Great Journey took approximately 874 years to complete.

The Claiming

The Claiming lasted for 365 years from the end of the Great Journey to the Imperium. During the Claming the four main systems of the Empire were settled with the first being the Drakcon system where the Imperial Capital is and the rest settled in the following order Wyvern system, Drake system, and Doragon system.

The Imperium

The Imperium is from the ending of the Claiming up to present day Drakcon.

Wars and Conflicts

The Drakcon Empire has not been in a full scale war since the Imperium was declared although it was involved in several minor skirmishes during the Great Journey and the Claiming.

Government

Government Structure

In regards of Drakcon's political regime while the Emperor’s power is supreme all the laws must be approved by the Conclave of Steadholders which is located on the capital planet. Still the Emperor remains a major power, and the cases when The Emperor was able to enforce their will upon the Conclave are known. In either case, all the nobility, military leaders and planetary governments within Empire must swear allegiance to the Emperor, and it is clear that Drakconians view it as something far greater then a simple formality.

The Emperor

Emperor Drakco the 1st has ruled the Drakcon Empire since before the Preparation. He is viewed with great reverence as a God, even though this greatly annoys him.

The Steadholders

The Steadholders are feudal rulers appointed by the Emperor to rule a land holding in his “stead” hence the name Steadholders, each Steadholder's decree has the force of law within his steading, so long as it does not conflict with the Constitution. A Stead Holder governs until he/she dies or becomes unfit to do so; their titles are pasted on to an heir who is usually an immediate family member though if they betray the Emperor they and their family could lose their titles and holdings. The Steadholder is highest title that one can achieve without becoming part of the Imperial family.

Annexation Policies

While the Drakcon Empire expands their borders, they always maintain a strict policy of non-intervention into affairs of planets that haven’t entered the Future Age. As a result many planets that are technically part of Drakcon Empire actually don’t even know of Empire they are the subjects of. When such a planet within Drakcon's borders enters the Future Age, they are usually either approached by Drakconians or encounter Drakconian spaceships or space stations on their own. In either case, it is reveled to the planetary populous that they are subjects of Drakcon Empire. Drakcon Empire accepts no refusals at this point, and any attempts of such result in effective demonstration of the power of Drakcon military (usually harmless, with use of asteroids for “target practice”). Considering that common Drakconian Battleships are a match to the best most other interstellar nations have to offer, very few see any point in continuing attempts of refusing. The few skirmishes (they cannot be called wars) that have been fought over continuing refusals quickly ended in Drakconian favor. While Drakconians caused few civilian deaths, they are known for eliminating the entire opposing space fleets during the course of these skirmishes. Even once the planet formally joins Drakcon Empire, the planet is allowed to keep a great deal of independence, with the new Stead Holders of the planet being chosen from is populous.

National Animal

The Nation's national animal, the Space Dragon, is a huge, awesome creature created in the labs of the Office of Science millennia ago as it is the symbol of the Drakcon Empire. It can grow to be larger than a house but such giants are rarely seen, only in the deepest part of the wilderness where they can take centuries to grow to this size, while the most commonly seen size is around that of a large dog. They are aggressive, and carnivorous, but when brought up as hatchlings, they are loving and friendly creatures. They make excellent "watchdogs" for small children intelligent enough to seek help should something happen to their charge. They are largely social creatures and can often be observed in large groups.

Currency

The Draco is the national currency of the Drakcon Empire and is usually found in the form of advanced polymer “paper” notes ranging from 1 to 10,000 Dracos; these notes have a lifespan of approximately 150 years in circulation.
