The Empire of Driveshaft is a massive, safe nation, renowned for its compulsory military service. Its compassionate population of 1.042 billion are prohibited from doing almost everything except voting, which they do timidly and conservatively.
It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Education, and Religion & Spirituality. The average income tax rate is 50%, and even higher for the wealthy. A large private sector is led by the Arms Manufacturing industry, followed by Automobile Manufacturing and Beef-Based Agriculture.
New urban roads are threatening city parks, retirement homes are often fitted with luxurious suites, all writing must pass a censorship board before being allowed on the shelves, and refugees from other nations are flocking to Driveshaft's border. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Driveshaft's national animal is the springer spaniel, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the kopeck.
