The Beginning of a Nation
No one really know's Duneria's early history. Some say it started thousand's of year's ago, while other's believe it only really started a hundred year's ago. How Duneria really started is in the humble beginning's of a British colony sometime in the late 1750's, about two year's after the nation of Cazelia overthrew the shackles of British rule. Duneria's founding began with a young student named Alexander Gaunt.
Gaunt, like other student's at the time, were without money and usually found themselves working at the local pub's. It was there that two Cazelian officer's entered the bar. Witnesses say that that the two officer's sat near Gaunt and talked to him about an unknown subject. They talked for hour's and hour's, even past closing time. When they left, Gaunt was seen standing alone with a peice of paper.
According to legend, one of the Cazelian men was one of the founding father's of the empire. Apparently the peice of paper given to Gaunt was the constitution of the colony, declaring it a subject of the British Empire.
In other words, slaves to the British.
Eight year's later, rumor's began spreading about a possible revolution against the colonial government, who at the time, began a tax on meat, beer, and wine. This, coupled with the news of other colonies revolting sucessfully, gave the civilian's a new sense of nationalism. For another 6 years, Gaunt and his revolutionaries began attacking British outpost's and started demonstrations outside colonial offices. Finally, after 6 years of pressure, the British pulled out. Jubilation filled the street's that day, as both civiian and revolutionary embraced. At the climax of the party, Gaunt climbed on top of the Colonial office, and nailed down the new constitution of the colony. At the time, Duneria was known as New Queensland, and the colonists kept that way for over 100 year's. Nevertheless, the colonist's victory meant the formation of a new nation, the catalyst for event's to come.
Occupation
For 30 years, the new provisional government ruled over the citizens of New Queensland. Food, supplies, and raw material's, were imported and exported without problem nor delay. Efficiency increased triple-fold, and money soon filled the colonies coffer's. Life was never better for the 2 million inhabitants. The average joe could find a normal job, and would be able to live their lives in luxury.
With such luxurious lives, the citizens had no reason to enlist in the army, or in the case of the buisiness man, no reason to invest in military supplies. The government cut funding to all military services, and instead put them toward health care, education, and tax breaks. This habit helped bring prosperity to the people, but it did nothing to prepare the State for what came next.
