The Democratic Republic of Eorpa

"Peace is Only a Dove's Flight Away"

Beginnings

Many years ago, a lone man from the Armed Republic of Volghon was able to escape from the oppresion of that nation. His name was Aesthatar. He managed to flee to a neighbouring nation, and after a time set out alone. He gathered to him people who were displeased with their governments, for whatever reason, and together they formed a small community, orignally a Province of the Republic of Irashiru, and abided by the rules of that Nation. However, after several years, when Aesthatar was in his final days, as a reward for military service the Province of Eorpa had provided Irashiru, Eorpa was granted independence, and a large plot of land. They added to this in a series of wars with Volghon, and soon grew to match their first ruler's Home Nation.

Since those days, it has been tradition for the rulers of Eorpa to take on pseudonyms, often beginning with 'Aes' and often using that as a seperate word, as in the ninth Prince of Eorpa, Aes Caradin.

Beliefs

Eorpa once held a Pagan religious system, with a pantheon of nine Gods. However, in recent times people have abandoned the Old Ways, and think less and less about Gods and Goddesses, insisting that they alone are in control of their destiny. Only the ruler, often called the Prince, but who in actuality has all of the powers of a President, has the status of a DemiGod, like the Egyptian Kings of Old. It is also customary for Princes to be elected while quite old, and they proceed to rule for the rest of their lives, or until they abdicate (this has only happened thrice in the nation's history).

The nation also enjoys many Freedoms that surrounding countries envy, such as the Independent Markets where successful businessmen can sell surplus goods and keep all profits. In particular, the Volghans despise this, as they live in poverty due to their Fuhrer's mistrust of 'Capitaslist Ideals' such as Free Trade.

Political Views

The Eorpans are a complete Democracy. The right to vote is held by all people over the age of 21, with only criminals, the insane and non-Eorpans exempt from the Franchise. In days gone by voting was forced upon the masses, but when a member of the Prince's Cabinet pointed out that the forced implementation of a 'right' makes people rile against it, so the law was overturned. However there still are monetary incentives for people to vote.

The Government meet in a large Palace in the capital city of Haen where the Prince presides. The cabinet, also called the Council of the Twelve, make the laws, but the Prince has to approve them. If he does not, they go back to the cabinet, who must modify it until the Prince approves. If he denies the legislation three times it is abandoned, and is not allowed to be put forward to that Prince again.

Elections for the new Prince are held one month after the death or abdication of the previous one. This is to allow a week of National Mourning, and three weeks for each candidate to launch their campaign. The election is held back if only one candidate campaigns, and is held back until at least one other joins the race.

Economy

The economy of Eorpa relies on their numerous exports. They grow large amounts of Cocoa and Coffee, as well as some Tea and Sugar. The surrounding countries who Eorpa has trade agreements with buy these for high prices, contributing to Eorpa's thriving economy.

They also import some produce, chiefly from Irashiru. These include Cotton and some meat. The goverment see to it that food is distributed where it is needed, which leads to the lack of poverty in the country.

Alliances and Emnities

The main enemy of Eorpa is Volghon. The two have never agreed, and the Leaders of Volghon have always said they have a claim to the throne, since the nation was founded by an Volghan.

Eorpa has many allies, though, and it is for this reason that Volghon has never dared invade. The main allies are Irashiru and Richanchu. They have always seen eye to eye, and have retained diplomatic ties during even the most turbulent times in Sheogaroth.

Then there is Intermundia. Its Facist doctrines have always contradicted with Eorpa's liberal outlook, and the two have almost come to blows several times.
