The Protectorate of Fistenberg is a small, environmentally stunning nation, notable for its strong anti-business politics. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 18 million are ruled by a mostly-benevolent dictator, who grants the populace the freedom to live their own lives but watches carefully for anyone to slip up.
The government -- a sprawling, bureaucracy-choked, corrupt morass -- devotes most of its attentions to Law & Order, with areas such as Social Welfare and Commerce receiving almost no funds by comparison. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 35%. Private enterprise is illegal, but for those in the know there is a slick and highly efficient black market in Basket Weaving.
Bicyclists are banned from major roads, military spending recently hit a new high, the latest Harry Potter book is a bestseller, and meat is a luxury afforded only to the wealthy. Crime is a problem. Fistenberg's national animal is the stone lion, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the fist.
Fistenberg is ranked 2512th in the region and 41,771st in the world for Most Pro-Market Nations.
