Geography
The Rogue Nation of Flibbleites is a geographically diverse nation located on a midair archipelago with climates ranging from snow covered mountains hot, dry deserts, and lush tropical rainforests.
Politics
The political system is a representative democracy with governmental powers split between three branches; the Grand Poobah, the Congress, and the Supreme Court.
The Grand Poobah
History of the office
When The Rogue Nation of Flibbleites was first formed the Grand Poobah was a heriditory position and remained as such untill the last in the bloodline died before producing an heir. When that happened the Congress, which was nothing more than a figurehead before then, decided to let the people choose who they wanted as the new Grand Poobah. The original plan was for the person elected to the post to pass the office to their decendants as was done previously, but since the people were so overwhelmingly supportive of the idea of electing the Grand Poobah, the Congress and the newly elected Grand Poobah decided to leave it as an elected position.
The Grand Poobah Today
The Grand Poobah has an unsual election system attached to the office because once you're elected you never have to be reelected. However you still have to remain on the people's good side as every three years a recall election is held where the voters can vote the Grand Poobah out of office, and a special recall election will be held if at least 15% of the registered voters in the nation sign a petition requesting one. The problem with the special recall elections is that while a standard recall election only requires a simple majority to remove a standing Grand Poobah, the special recall elections require a double majority (over 50% yes votes and over 50% of eligible voters voting) to successfully remove the Grand Poobah.
The Grand Poobah's powers
The Grand Poobah's primary job is as the final stop for new laws to be created, while the Congress creates the laws they don't go into effect unless they recieve the Grand Poobah's signature. Occasionally situtations will occur when the Grand Poobah will want a law passed but the Congress won't pass it. When this occurs the Grand Poobah can play his trump card and use a power that remains from the days when the Grand Poobah was heriditory, the power to disband the Flibbleite Congress temporarily thereby leaving the Grand Poobah with sole control of the nation until he decides to reform the Congress.
