Genesia is the capital city of the Pantocratorian island-duchy of Verditania. It is Verditania's only significant port, and is located at the foot of Mount Genesia (it is unclear whether the mountain was named after the city or vice versa) at a natural harbour. The Prince's official residence, called the Mountain Palace, is built overlooking the city itself on the side of the mountain, consisting of two primary structures, an early pantobyzantine keep and a late pantobyzantine palace, surrounded by impressive sixteenth century double-layered walls from which two batteries of heavy cannon were originally placed to protect the harbour. Dominating the city itself is the early pantobyzantine Cathedral of The Holy Empress Saint Theodora, Restorer of the Veneration of the Holy Icons (the Cathedral of the Holy Empress Theodora for short), seat of the Archbishop of Verditania, considered one of the best examples of early pantobyzantine architecture as much for the fact that it has been modified very little since the time of its construction as for its design. Genesia's population has been fairly stagnant over the past two hundred years - its population in 1802, according to the Imperial Census, was 12,441, nine more than its estimated population at the time of the second 2004 election.
