General Information

The Republic of Ghorunda is a very large, devout nation, remarkable for its complete absence of social welfare. Its compassionate, cynical population of 56 million are ruled with an iron fist by the dictatorship government, which ensures that no-one outside the party gets too rich. In their personal lives, however, citizens are relatively unoppressed; it remains to be seen whether this is because the government genuinely cares about its people, or if it hasn't gotten around to stamping out civil rights yet.

The enormous, socially-minded government juggles the competing demands of Religion & Spirituality, Law & Order, and Defence. The average income tax rate is 32%, but much higher for the wealthy. A robust private sector is led by the Automobile Manufacturing industry, followed by Arms Manufacturing and Retail.

Murderers frequently escape punishment by claiming they were protecting their honour, the police have reaffirmed their tough stance on drugs, a National Academy regulates grammar and usage, and the government spends millions of credits every year prosecuting spammers. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is relatively low, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. Ghorunda's national animal is the viper, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the credit.
