The Empire of Hendrick 24 is a huge, safe nation, renowned for its compulsory military service. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 200 million are kept under strict control by the oppressive government, which measures its success by the nation's GDP and refers to individual citizens as "human resources."
The medium-sized, corrupt, moralistic government is mainly concerned with Law & Order, although Defence and Commerce are secondary priorities. The average income tax rate is 17%, but much higher for the wealthy. A substantial private sector is led by the Automobile Manufacturing industry, followed by Pizza Delivery and Arms Manufacturing.
Children as young as twelve are conscripted into the armed forces, genetic research has been halted, private business has started paving paradises and putting up parking lots, and the government has returned all business to private ownership. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. Hendrick 24's national animal is the Wolf, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the Gordon.
