It fought multiple wars againt Arab neighbors who didn't want the tiny nation to exist. The first of which was the war of Independence in 1948. This was followed by wars in 1954 and 1956 with Egypt and Syria. In 1967 when the existance of the state was threatened by the Egyptian closing of the Gulf of Eliat and with an imminent invasion the IDF fought back. In 6 days the Gaza Strip, West Bank, Golan Heights, and Sinai Penninsula were captured from the Syrians, Jordanians, and Egyptians. In 1973 during Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish religion, the Egyptians and Syrians attacked and almost defeated the IDF. IDF nearly lost initially, but it then fought back due to the strength of the IAF in gaining air superiority. IDF was actually capable of driving straight to Damascus and Cairo, but a cease-fire came about and the war ended an Israeli victory. | ||

The nation of IDF was founded by UN Partition in 1947. It was originally named Israel upon the time it was founded. It fought multiple wars againt Arab neighbors who didn't want the tiny nation to exist. The first of which was the war of Independence in 1948.
