The Kingdom of Inveteratoria is a volcanic island located in the south Pacific Ocean.
Overview
Popped up out of the Pacific one night due to a magma upswell... colonized by some crazy Polynesians.
Geography
It's in the south Pacific, which is fairly non-specific, but who cares because they're pascifistic?
Topography
It's pretty flat... like your mom.
Climate
It's pretty hot though... like your mom's ass.
Subdivisions
We've got em, need one?
Symbols
The islanders who call the Kingdom home are fond of adorning themselves in Ta Moko representations of their personal interpretation of the buzzard protector. Plus it looks pretty neat on the flag.
History
Polynesian colonization
Outrigger canoes carried these hearty souls from the shores of New Zealand. Upon landing they discovered a fairly green environment covered in small palms and grasses. Having brought with them Chickens, Pigs, and Dogs the colonists invested in Sago Palm, and Taro farming agriculture soon covering the various valleys around the island with a network of farms and stockades. The other main source of food was the shoreline fishing of each clan on the island. Trade amongst clans often resulted in conflict though the violence of these eruprtions was often minimized by a lack of projectile weapons. Thus beyond a few clubbings and fist fights, serious death and destruction rarely occurred, with clan "big men" often negotiating settlement.
English Trade Missions, 1893-1898
The English landed in 1893, and proceeded to exchange interesting trade goods, food items, and weapons with various clans on the island in exchange for fresh water, fish, and breadfruit grown in various areas around the island.
Aroha Musket Wars, 1895-1902
As the clans obtained projectile weapons the casual fighting that often broke out soon escalated into full blown warfare, and soon the English became embroiled as the clans believed the traders to be taking sides. This resulted in the Aroha Musket Wars of 1895 which did not cease until the Talon clan (strongest of the island clans) unified the various clans of the island valleys under the Talon Crown in 1903 following the battle of Black Pearl Beach.
Treaty of Talonia, 1900
Upon becoming entangled in the Musket Wars the English realized the easiest way to extricate themselves from a violent situation was to ally themselves with who they percieved to be the strongest leader on the island. They thus selected the Chief of the Talon clan and decided to support him in his hopes to unify the island and name himself King. The treaty signed in Talonia in August of 1900 gave full domain and control of the island to the new King of Inveteratoria, wearer of the Talon Crown... under protection and full trade rights of the British Crown of course.
Unification under the Talon Crown, 1903
Following the bloody battle of Black Pearl Beach the remaining defeated clans swore fealty to the Talon Crown and his British supporters, soon after which the British retreated to their trading vessels hoping to never have to put up with the annoying habits of the Inveteratorians naked wanderings and rambling musings combined with their horrid singing voices.
Politics
The Talon King holds the Talon Crown and who would mess with that fine system? Not you obviously... or your mom.
Economy
Lots of woodchips to sell... and the Inveteratorians make a mean musket. Plus they grow all their own crops and farm their own protien sources.
Demographics
Religions
Formerly Pagan, the Inveteratorians are for the most part Anglican by denomination along with a healthy number of Agnostics that still pay some attention to the old Pagan ways.
Languages
The mother tongue of Inveteratorian Maori lies on the mainland of New Zealand, but it's usage has dwindled following trade with the English and unification under the Talon Crown. Now perhaps 15% of the island population speak Maori, while 100% speak English.
Military
The UK provides military assistance when necessary as outlined in the Treaty of Talonia. Since this assistance has never actually been needed though it remains to be seen if the British would honour their agreements. Assuming otherwise given their pragmatic outlook, the Inveteratorians maintain a crack navy of outrigger canoes in combination with musket kayaks and explosive torpedoes... not to mention surfing commados ... who look mighty fine in their wetsuits and guns!
