Josekistan
History
Was a thriving middle ages community. However, when the silk road was built between Europe and the Far East there was no exit built for Josekistan. Quickly becoming a backwater, these feircely independent people were forgotten for years. Technically part of the Soviet Union, due to a series of cartographic mistakes no one knew it. Josekistan was discovered during the USSR-Afganistan war mainly because a tank batallion took a wrong turn.
With their forceable entry into the 20th century these nomadic people adapted. Their nomadic lifestylle picked up the use of cell phones, gps, and wireless networking. In fact there is no hardwired phone service in Josekistan. IP and outsourced customer assistance a re two of the bright areas of their economy(and it isn't much of an economy). On occasion a customer will demand if the person assisting them is an American. The trained response is to use a very poor Indian accent so that they won't guess the operator is actually in Josekistan.
The People
The citizens of Josekistan are no fans of clocks and have a hard time with the concept of working 9-5. Some factories have been built, but worker turnover is incrediable. A typical employee will work for 2 weeks and then decide to do something else.
The only way anything resembling an economy exists is due to the huge worker database. It matches the the very iternerant inhabitants and their caravans to job openings and skill sets. Typically, an internet connected PDA is required to even keep up with who is your supervisor.
Diplomatic Relations
A diplomat or ambassor assigned to Josekistan is not in for a cushy job, unless they have very strange tastes. Josekistan has no capital or really cities of any sort. This is because the population is constantly on the move in large caravans.
It is recommended that unless the ambassador really likes animals that the nationstate setting up diplomatic relations by a large truck or school bus to use as an embassy. Josekistan recognizes such mobile embassies as foriegn soil and entitled to the right and privledges normally accorded more stationary diplomatic outposts.
Commercial Interest
We do have an airport. It is open most of the time. Due to inability to keep to regular schedules the national airline of Josekistan went bankrupt and closed down six months ago. Foriegn carriers using native of their own nations do seem to provide regular serevice.
Some factoies have been built. Many have acheived full production. Jobs must be well defined and not require a great deal of conatinutity due to the average Josekistan's workers tendency to lose interest in regular work after two to three weeks. Exceptions exist, but are primarily jobs where travelling is involved: truck driver, librarymobile, mobile retail shop, automotive repair, and so on. Careers where telecommuting is effective are also satisfactory.
