Kamunistan is a small enclave in the arid region between the northern Ashta and Kashoun provinces of Daytanistan, of which it has only recently declared its independence. The independance of Kamunistan has yet to be officially recognized by either Daytanistan or the international community. Its application to join the United Nations is still pending.
Geography
The independant region of Kamunistan is an arid plateau streching between the Veya river and the Kashin-Kashin hill range. The great majority of the population lives in rural settelments, with large parts of it still leading a nomadic lifestyle. The largest city is the sleepy industry center of Tirnan, which currently functions as the nation's capital. The government of Kamunistan also lays claim to the surrounding highlands, the Veyada mountain range and the city of Marak.
Economy
The economy of Kamunistan is based almost solely on agriculture and processed agricultural products such as soap, glue and oil. There are no noteworthy resources Kamunistan, though the Veyada mountains are known to contain some iron deposits. The disputed city of Marak sits directly on the Hermaji-Persian gas pipeline.
Government
The governing ideology of Kamunistan is an odd mixture of fundemtalist Islam and Socialism, and is mostly held together by the charismatic personality of the undisputed leader High General Nazid Ibn-Allah Khavasov. The Kamunistani militia functions as a military, police force and government. The legislative council of mullahs functions mainly as an advisory body, and at times simply as a rubber stamp. The Kamunistani courts of law are made out almost exclusively out of former Daytanistani functionaries of heavy socialist leanings.
The Kamunistani People
Due to official Uniethnic view of enforced by the Daytani government, the existance of the Kamuni people has been hitherto denied by Yerbel. The few foreign anthropologists who have studied the region report that though the people in question are physically indistinguishable from ethnic Daytars, they do speak a slightly different language, which Daytani linguists have dismissed as a sociolect of Daytoo.
History
The region has no history of political independance. Its history remains to be rewritten by the newly-founded university of Tirnan (to be opened by 2010).
