Kashtanistan is an island nation east of Murmansk, Russia. It has suffered a civil war four years earlier, and after stability was restored by capitalist Russia and NATO, the former Soviet Republic Novistrana invaded it and split Kashtanistan into West and East, capitalist and communist respectively.

Etymology

The full name of the country is Кaштaниcтан Российская Федерация (Kashtanistan Rossiskaya Federatsiya), or Kashtanistan Russian Federation. The name "Kashtanistan" is derived from the Russian word from chestnut ("Кaштaн").

Geography

Kashtanistan's climate is greatly varied. In Frigistan, temperatures can drop 20 below during the winter, making much of the land mountainous, full of glaciers, and snowy. In Blastnya, on the other hand, a subtropical dominates and summer temperatures average a warm 20 degrees Celcius. In Petrovakia, grasslands from time to time yield rich oil and aluminum. In Travistan, taiga forests dominate the region. In Zamblamia, lush, tropical vegetation is widespread and jungles are abundant. In Tankylvania, mountains and temperate forests are everywhere. In Archekistan, steppes and desert are endless. In Vodkavania, the land is relatively flat and is good for farming. In Killingrad, the region is marked by the invasive spread of taiga forests. In the southern region, is in Siberia.

History

Shortly after the Vietnam War ended, Kashtanistan was used as a military installation. After the discovery of rich oil and metal deposits on the island in 1980, cities were founded and the Kashtanistan Soviet Republic was formed. Through the 1980s, the small island nation prospered from population growth and steady military buildup. In 1991, when the Soviet Union dissolved, loyal elements of the former Soviet military took control of Kashtanistan and under the dictator Alexei Bondarenko, Kashtanistan retained its Soviet influences of state-controlled markets and communist government. Kashtanistan then stayed cut off from the modern world until January 28, 2005 when a long-range guided missile fired from Kashtanistan shot down a Russian Aeroflot DC-10 was shot down over the North Atlantic, killing 42. That same day, a SCUD missile destroyed a Russian submarine, killing 20. In retaliation, NATO and Russian invaded Kashtanistan. Along with the help of rebel guerillas, the communist government was overthrown and a democratic government took its place. After the completion of a new free market economy, Kashtanistan went through a period of prosperity. People of all aspects became richer, the cities grew, and the economy grew hugely.

In January 2007, Kashtanistan's allies in the Balkans suffered blizzards, tornadoes, and tidal waves due to global warming. With the help of its NATO partners, Kashtanistan provided relief to this nation. However, some of the Serbian provinces quarreled over the resources and Serb President Boris Tadic declared martial law. The Erusean Serbs performed an offensive on the Osean Serbs in State City, failed, and retreated back to Erusea. In retaliation, the Eruseans hijacked and crashed a SerbAir 747 into the Aurelian Capitol Building, killing their government. Meanwhile, "re-education" camps were raided and a secret weapon believed to be a CSS-4 ICBM arrived at US Camp Los Canas. As coalition forces surrounded Alendai, Erusea, Serbia, the Erusean forces aimed SCUDs at Belgrade in an all-out ditch attempt. However, an unknown nuclear missile strike believed to be from the Americans and Russians hit Alendai, killing 167,345 people mainly soldiers. The general responsible was captured and executed at Sremska Mitrovica prison.

In Novistrana, however, things were looking different. Novistranian President Vasily Karasov had formed a new USSR and took over eastern Kashtanistan and set up client states in Central America, Korea, Central Europe, Vietnam, and Cambodia. The U.S., in turn responded with other client states ready to attack the others. With both countries reaching for their nukes, a new Cold War seemed to arise. Because of this, both West and East Kashtanistan are hostile towards each other.
