The Holy Empire of Kaysia was founded nearly two hundred years ago by religious separatists from the neighboring island nation of Kayanastan. However, it's barren desert landscape and abundant uranium had caused its indigenous populaton to mutate into what some scientists believe is two genetically viable new variants of Homo Sapiens. This new subspecies while still phisically mostly human, have also split into its own divisions, one species being nocturnal.
The daytime variant, or Homo Kaysianis Dies, has skin that is solid black, and a digestive system which excels at draining water from solid plants and animals. The night time variant, H. Kaysianis Nocturnalis is albino like, with extremely large pupils, and can easily digest the mushrooms and fungi which flourish on the island at night. Since the Dies light evolved eyes cannot function at night, and the Nocturnalis eyes cannot cope with sunlight, the two species rarely come into contact.
Both types typically avoid contact with Imperial forces, by remaining in the deep interior of the island away from settled areas.
