History of Kutou-koku

The nation of The Eastern Quadrant of Kutou-koku was founded by Japanese settlers who found themselves driven from their land as much of it began gobbled up in the midst of the urban sprawl taking their motherland by storm. Seeking a new home, many of them left to form a new nation in a distant land where no man had made his impression and sought to create a new nation that would not be warlike and would still retain the tradition of the monarchy, with an emperor or empress at the head of the state.

That much of their history was not rocked by corruption, fear, totalitarian authoritarianism, terror. In fact, their early years were quite peaceful, even though they were opposed to their north-eastern neighbour of Kryozerkia from the day they came into existance. There had been a conflict over land and eventually the borders were drawn, but ethnic Japanese got caught in the mix and wound up being forced to change their citizen or move and start all over. They formed the Kryozerkian province of Zekegard, or at least part of it.

They eventually faded into the backdrop of the Kryozerkian cultural mosaic, while their Kutounease counterparts didn't have to worry about losing their cultural heritage to a disrespectful majority, who trampled over basic human rights. They lived in the large area of land, free to hold thrice the amount they could have ever owned in their life back in their country of Japan. They, however, weren't alone, they soon found that there were other natives that already existed here, but the natives seemed to just blend right in with the general population.

Under the regime of the Dowager Empress Ai, things changed drastically when the peaceful of Kutou-koku was forced into war with Kryozerkia over fundamental differences because the ruling leader of Kryozerkia, Prime Minister Chikita, had a personal vendetta against the nation of Kutou-koku, which to this day has yet to be solved. (For more information about the war, please consult the entry on Kryozerkia and ALSN, both in their history sections).

When the end of the war did eventually come, the face of their nation had changed. The Dowager Emperss Ai was forced to step down, for reasons she had never disclosed to the public of Kutou-koku, and in her place was her daughter, Princess Michiko. The late then-Princess, now-Empress Michiko ascended to the imperial throne of Kutou-koku, hoping to turn the tides of time back and restore the nation to its former glory, but, instead she was faced with javing to finish her mother's rebuilding projects, and growing dissent in the easterm province of Kirin Tor, which had been split in half by The Eastern Alliance, who seized West Kirin Tor, leaving East Kirin Tor with Kutou-koku.

The former province of Nyosei was also a hotbed for violance, though much of it went undocumented because of corruption in the local police force, or lack thereof due to the killing of men on a large, almost genocidal scale by the Amazon-like women of the former province. Eventually it broke away as West Kirin Tor, which was left to flounder when the nation of The Eastern Alliance ceased to exist, found itself reuniting with the eastern half of Kirin Tor, which had alsp failed in trying to achieve independance from the nation of Kutou-koku.

As the shift in the nation's geography transpired, so did a shift in the political leanings. Soon, gone were the days when an imperial monarch ruled over the people of Kutou-koku. Their last monarch was Empress Michiko who had died of myterious causes, making current Prime Minister, Prime Minister Tsukino Sakura the first democratically elected leader of Kutou-koku, since the founding of the nation.

Prime Minister Tsukino's policies have made a liberatarian state out of the former empire of Kutou-koku, however, while civil freedoms are at all-time highs, she still has something of an iron grip on political freedoms. The nation still has yet to have a truly democratic election, or for that matter, a true democracy. However, it has made a big leap in its progress towards that future...
