The People's Republic of Leninia-Trotskya is an NS nation and member of the International Communist Union. Leninia-Trotskya is a UN member. It is categorized as a Liberal Socialist Democracy by the UN.

Geography

Leninia-Trotskya is an archipelago of islands. The main island, Taark, is approximately 90,567 square kilometers. The terrain is generally flat in the south and east, featuring forest and grassland. In the northwest, rolling foothills give way into a range of high mountains.

For administrative purposes, Leninia-Trotskya is divided into five provinces.

  • Leninia: The most populated province, and home to Leninia-Trotskya's capital, Soviet City.
  • Trotskya: An industrialized province featuring little more than worker's communities. It's administrative centre is Fort Thorn.
  • Marxya: A province consisting of miles of rolling fields, this province is the major food-producing area.
  • Sweenya: A mountainous province that is largely inhospitable, but contains great mineral wealth. It's administrative centre, New Magnitogorsk, is one of the country's largest mining towns.
  • Connollya: A coastal province where much of Leninia-Trotskya's heavy industry, especially shipbuilding, is based. It is home to Freeport, the largest coastal city in Leninia-Trotskya.

History

The island of Taark has been inhabited back to at least the Bronze Age. Evidence of this has been found in three separate locations in the form of bronze pottery and spearheads, and evidence of early ironworking is also present. Not much is known about these early inhabitants, and the first outside source we have concerning these people is from Juan Luis de Felipe who led a team of explorers to the island in 1595. A Spanish colony was quickly established on the island due to its abundant iron and silver. However, the cost of maintaining this far-flung colony quickly outweighed the amount of resources finding their way back to Spain, mostly due to corrupt governors and prevalent piracy in the region. The Spanish abandoned the colony in 1756, and the island was colonized by the British the following year. The Americans attacked the island twice, once in 1805 and again during the War of 1812, and the island fell under American control until 1862, when independence was granted. The following 50 years saw the rise of the corrupt General Mendez, who claimed control over the island by tracing his family tree back to the Spanish settlers. Mendez’s coup overthrew the Taarkian Republic in 1871. From 1906 to 1912, a popular civil war overthrew Mendez’s government and set up a new Socialist government. A few years later, the government was revised into something which could truly be called Communism, taking inspiration from the writings of Vladimir Lenin and Leon Trotsky. From 1914 onwards, refugees from the Great War flocked to Taark to escape the imperialist hell of Europe, and Taark became a beacon of hope and freedom. The new Communist government of Taark eagerly joined the Communist Internationals, but later fell out of favour with Stalin’s USSR in 1943 when Comintern was dissolved. Taark continued to grow slowly over the next 60 years, and is closer than ever to attaining a Communist utopia. In a popular referendum, the name the People’s Republic of Leninia-Trotskya replaced the Democratic Republic of Taark as the country name in 2006. It came into effect as of Jan. 1, 2007.

Life in Leninia-Trotskya

The people of Leninia-Trotskya benefit from a large social welfare scheme, and every citizen is encouraged to take part in the government. The people are generally very patriotic and largely devout, though no census data on religion is collected, so there is no evidence of a predominant religion. 6 months' service in the military is required by law, and most complete their service after university, though it can be completed at any time between age 18 and 45. The people generally work hard in the country's entirely nationalized industries, and each industry is given representation in the Congress of Soviets, the nation's parliamentary body. The national holiday is Revolution Day, January 3rd, memorializing the Socialist Insurgency of 1906.

Current Events

Leninia-Trotskya has recently conquered several other islands in its archipleago, overthrowing kingdoms, dictatorships, and republics. Most have voted overwhelmingly to join the PRL-T, and those who did not have been allowed to hold referendums to elect new governments.
