History

Luchamos Bay is the name of the body of water completely surrounded by the island Luchamos. The Balsans nomadic fishermen of the southern bay, have been the most aggressive of the tribes. Their northern neighbors, the Aldeans were more peaceful. The Granajans were first amongst the land dwellers, roving the forests of the main island, and dominating whoever was in their way. Spanish missionaries converted most of the area the Catholicism, and taught them their language. Chief Plutarkin of the Balsans, saw how the foreigners were stronger than them and went out on a crusade to unite all the tribes of Luchamos and Luchamos Bay. His dream was not realized until the early 1900’s when a confederacy formed due to an alliance of all the tribes except Garkesa in the great war. Garkesa's side was defeated, and humbly absorbed by the others. It all collapsed in the mid 1990’s, but a band of Patriots saved the tattered nation and made it into a federal democracy.

Government

Luchamos is a Democracy were the people elect a Supreme Chief by popular vote. Each island itself has a governor, with the smaller islands governor acting as mayor of the small cities.

Head of state

The current Supreme Chief is Oliver Peterson. He was born in Balsas and served in the Navy and was a decorated war hero in the Mushiti Crisis. He led a band of Patriots who salvaged the united Luchamos in days following the confederacy collapse. He has served for two terms, and since there is no term limits, he has no need to step down.

High Consul

The High Consul is the elected body of Luchamos. It is divided into two houses, the House of Consulars and the House of Elders. Consulars are distributed by population, while there are two Elders per federally recognized tribe. Tribes exist in the traditional sense, and modernly, as in a greater area.

Judiciary

The Judiciary is set up on four levels; Common, which handles day to day issues, Tribal, which handles more important issues Common level can not cope with, Federal, which deals with federal law, and Appeals, which deal with Appeals from the other three courts,. Sometimes referred to as a fifth level is the High Appellate, as it is an appeals court, however it hears appeals from the appeals courts.

Capital

The capital is the city of Balsas. Located on an island in the middle of the bay of Luchamos, for hundreds of years it has been a meeting place for fishermen to repair boats, sell fish in market, and weather storms. The modern metropolis covers nearly all of the island, which has been artificially made larger, originally by moving dirt from the surrounding area, and more recently by man made floating "ground" Only citizens of Luchamos are allowed to go to Balsas. That is why the city of Aldea houses foreign embassies, as well as the Luchamos State Department.

Language

The nation's official language is English, however many of the native peoples speak their original language. Nearly all the natives can speak Spanish, which they learned from Spanish missionaries. A large German speaking population lives near the city of Granaja. English law and its familiarity with most all its inhabitants made it the official language.

Motto

The motto comes from a line by Plutarkin, a great tribal leader. After a traveler was descrbing how a new kind of Mexicans peppers grew only in specific and gentle climates, the leader said "funcionamos lejos de los pepinos mexicanos gigantes" or "We function far from giant Mexican Peppers"
