Malmö is the capital city of Sovetskaya Shvetsiya since 2007, replacing Stockholm. It boasts a population of around 20 million people in the Metro-Malmö area.
Sports
The biggest sports in Malmö are soccer and ice hockey. Soccer enjoys a greater popularity in Malmö, as a result of the success that has been embraced in international tournaments from Malmö FF. A 82,000-seater stadium, the Bob Houghton Stadium, was completed in 1982 to celebrate Malmö FF reaching the 1979 European Cup Final.
Skyline
Malmö have during the last few years been performing a number of high-profile skyscraper constructions. Local politicians have declared that more skyscrapers will be built in the near future. The capital of Japan, Tokyo, has also expressed interest in giving the Tokyo Tower to Malmö as a gift, since the Sumida Tower will render the Tokyo Tower obsolete after construction is finished in 2008. The tower could on the other hand force the TV tower at Jägersro into an early retirement.
