The Popular Socialist Maodom of Maoist Razoria (Maoish: Mao Mao Hā Rāzō Ten'ura Kawa Ā Shūmon 毛 毛弌 ラーゾー 人ウラ カワ 弌 しユーモん) is a nation in the Isthmus of Chthonica. It is internationally renowned for its extreme abuse of human rights, although its residents generally believe that they live under the best system of government.

The government rigorously guards the secrecy of the nation's history, but gradually the facts have become clear through covert archaeological and historical investigations conducted by foreigners. It is generally agreed among external observers that the "Official History" promulgated by the government does not match reality, and is instead a propaganda device.

The de facto wielder of power is the Chairman of the Politburo (currently Prudence Jong-Il III), who rules as an effective dictator. However, the nominal head of state is none other than Mao Zedong himself.

History

Since time immemorial, Maoist Razoria was inhabited by the Razorians (Maoish: ラーゾー人 Rāzōten). Their stone age lasted until about 300 BC. Sometime around then, agriculture was developed, and in 30 BC the earliest known written document was produced (although the language has not been deciphered). Their civilization flourished until about 1950 AD. During that time, the Razorians spread southward into what is now Nassachusetts, although the turbulent oceans in the region made it difficult to travel overseas, and only one major offshore colony was established, on Lars Wu Island.

In 1922, Razoria was discovered by a group of Chinese explorers, and an influx of Chinese, Japanese, and Korean immigrants began. The natives and the immigrants coexisted peacefully for a while, until the immigrants occupied almost all of Razoria and had driven the Razorians south into Nassachusetts. On April 21, 1946, a small army of Razorians attacked a military base in the Battle of Mount Kenkaipa. The immigrants, led by Mao Zedong, and possessing superior technology, repelled the attack in a crushing victory and established the border between Razoria and Nassachusetts. After the battle, the Razorians formed a government-in-exile, where they secretly plotted a massive surprise attack on Razoria.

Meanwhile, the citizens of New Razoria (as the country was now called), imbued with a new sense of patriotism, proclaimed Mao to be their leader. Mao and other government leaders assembled to produce a constitution for the new country, which was approved by referendum on December 7, 1951.

The government consisted of the People's National Committee, a group elected by the people; and the Chairman, elected by the People's National Committee. Although the government had socialist tendencies, it was not nearly as dictatorial as it is today. Mao was elected Chairman, and he served until his death on September 9, 1976.

All the while, the Razorian government-in-exile was plotting an overthrow of the Maoist regime, involving a full-scale invasion, infiltration of the People's National Committee, and the assassination of Mao Zedong.

On July 20, 1976, a Maoist spy who had infiltrated the Razorian government-in-exile discovered details of the plot, and quickly relayed them back to the People's National Committee. The spy was promptly killed by the Razorians, but it was too late. Mao declared a state of emergency (as provided for in the Constitution), and martial law was enacted. Maoist troops began a campaign to systematically exterminate all Razorians, both in and out of New Razoria. Despite this, however, on September 9, Mao was assassinated in his office by a Razorian assassin. The leading members of the People's National Committee (those who had not been executed for suspicion of treason), however, seeing an opportunity for power, had the corpse embalmed and secretly shipped off to China. They then announced that Mao had been kidnapped by Razorian terrorists.

The Razorian genocide ended, with the Razorian population reduced from about 120 million to less than 800 (who lived in perpetual fear of being executed by Maoists). The People's National Committee announced that the state of emergency would end as soon as Mao was found again (since only the Chairman of the People's National Committee is authorized to end a state of emergency). On May 8, 1984, the People's National Committee dissolved itself and reorganized itself into the "Politburo of the Provisional Government in the Temporary Absence of Chairman Mao." The Politburo consisted of the remaining members of the People's National Committee, who had chosen Lars Wu to be their first Chairman. The Chairman would have absolute power. The members of the Politburo would be appointed by the Chairman of the Politburo, rather than being elected, and the reason for this change was given to be "so that no barbaric and treasonous Razorians can infiltrate or influence our government."

When Lars Wu died in 1988, the next Chairman of the Politburo, Ji-Xiang Hnæfson, was chosen by and from among the Politburo, setting a precedent for the appointment of the Chairman of the Politburo.

Chairman Ji-Xiang Hnæfson initiated major changes to the social and political structure of New Razoria. The nation was renamed "The Popular Socialist Maodom of Maoist Razoria," and the Politburo was rearranged so that each member would be in charge of a particular aspect of government, such as education or the military, as well as "representing" a certain area of the country. The Maoish language, a constructed language designed by the Politburo Subcommittee of Linguistics, was introduced, and the Politburo's official name was changed to "Politburo of the Provisional Government in the Temporary Absence of His Most Exalted and Popular Socialist Supremacy Eternal Chairman Mao." Mao Zedong was elevated to a divine level, and portraits of him were displayed in every building and public area.
