The Menehune were the first race of Fae to inhabit what is now the Resurgent Dream. Once dream spirits who lived with Polynesian peoples, the Menehune and Polynesian humans discovered the islands millenia ago. These two peoples lived in relatives harmony for centuries.

During the Age of Mists, from which the islands derive their name, no one could leave the islands but some people did enter. Most of them were more Polynesians coming over from neighboring islands. A few Asians, Europeans, and Africans did find their way to the island but they were mostly assimilated swiftly into the Polynesian culture then prevailing.

Despite the relative freedom of the islands from any trace of the banality which forced the changeling Fae which then dominated most of the world to flee, the Menehune of the island fled Earth when the other Fae did.

When the Menehune returned during the Homecoming War, they were utterly heartbroken to discover that their human Polynesian kin had been driven from most of the island by unscrupulous and land hungry humans of European descent. Ignoring the war between these humans and other returned Fae, the Menehune immediately traveled to Pele, the one island where their kin were still allowed to dwell freely.

The Menehune maintained a traditional culture on Pele for many years, undisturbed by the residents of the other islands. Recently, however, Pele became a state in the Resurgent Dream and the Menehune began to be integrated into the nation in a manner based on mutual respect and cultural diversity. It is likely that Polynesian culture will always remain predominant on Pele. Hawaiian is likely to remain the official language and the worship of traditional Hawaiian deities the official religion. The leader of the Menehune, an Ali'i named Prince Kalakaua, has the same station, respect, and authority as any other Danaan state executive.
