Formation
In the late 1980s, the various feudal lords who had been fighting each other sporadically for centuries decided that, to be recognised in the modern world, they had to unite and update their political system. And thus the Federation of Mercosis came into being.
Political System
Every landowner in Mercosis can consider himself a'noble' and has a seat in the Mercodian Parliament. Any member of Parliament can put himself forward as a canditate for an elected position:
- Minister of Argiculture
- Minister of Defence
- Lord of the Treasury
- Chancellor of Mercosis
All other posts are appointed, usually by the Chancellor
The Chancellor is the only position decided by a general election. His powers include:
- Being able to propose new laws
- Being able to create new bodies within the government infrastructure
- Can be voted a dictator for 1 year by Parliament
Military
Army
The army is currently the largest wing of the military, consisting of 18 divisions. 2 of these are Panzer divisions, another 5 are Mechanized divisions and the remaining 11 are infantry divisions. These are spread into 6 corps which form two armies. Each division consists of three regiments, which are named for the area they are drawn from and comprise of 3 battalions.
The navy has only one fleet at the current time. It consists of 4 guided missile cruisers, 1 modernized battleship, 2 small aircraft carriers and 1 larger aircraft currently in dry dock along with various escort frigates and destroyers. The navy has some supply ship of its own but relies on commandeering merchant navy vessels at times of war. There are no submarines in the Mercodian Navy as yet.
Air Force
The Mercodian Air Force is very small. It currently consists of just one fighter group of 216 Su-47 Berkut fighters. Coming into service soom will be a bomber wing and support elements such as tankers and AWACs.
