The Kingdom Of New Asiria is a collection of small islands, 17 in total, and located at the coordinates, Latitude: 20° 02 Min. 40 Sec; Longitude: 220° 24 Min. 45 Sec. New Asiria is technically a Constitutional Monarchy as it has both a Royal family and a Government. New Asiria is mainly rainforest due to its location and the government continually preserves open spaces for nature. In 2006, 450 different species of animals and insects were found in the forests of Asiria alone. Due to the history involved with New Asiria there are currently 3 different nationalities though New Asirian is the most common now, New Asirian (77%), Norman Asirian (21%), Western Asirian (2%). The national language is Asirian, though there is a heavy Norman Asirian influence upon the language. New Asiria has recently invested heavily in international business moving into the capital of Angorra as well as international business and aid within poorer nations.

The Hierarchical Structure And Politics

The hierarchical structure consists of 2 Councils, 1 Court and 1 Bureau. These are commonly known as houses, all together there are 140 members separated into the 4 houses, 50 members in the Royal Council and 30 members each in The High Council, The Supreme Court and The Peoples Bureau. It is important to note at this point that historically the supreme court was the most important court when the King was the sole goerning body. The change from a Monarchical system to a Democratic has obviously forced the appointed Lords and Ladies down in the ranks of importance.

The Royal Court:

This is the most important house and has 50 members, 5 permanent and 45 elected every 12 months. The decisions made here are what are known as ‘Emergency Legislation’ and can only come into force in the event of an emergency. The 5 permanent members are, His Royal Highness and Her Royal Majesty, the Prime minister at the time and the deputy prime minister and the Lord Supreme. In order for emergency legislation to be passed all 5 permanent members must agree to it and at least 50% of those elected.

The High Council:

Second in importance but the most active of all the hierarchical houses, the high council votes and passes legislation that affects everyone. The members of this party are appointed by the current prime minister with the agreement of his deputy; this has brought up many conspiracy theories about the true democratic weight in New Asiria. The High Council has 17 ministers for the 17 islands that New Asiria makes up. The ministers in this house will take responsibility of a sector of the countries affairs for example Jacque Monroe is the defence minister. The High Council goes through a ballot every year and no one minister may take the same roll for more than 4 consecutive years. The High Council also has a National Vote for Power (N.V.P) every 4 years, to ensure the prime minister steps down from his position. There are 5 parties in the High Council, The New Asiria Labour (N.A.L), North Asiria Radicals (N.A.R), Eastern Liberty Front (E.L.F), Freedom From Old Britannia (F.F.O.B) and The Unionists (A relatively new and small party).

The Supreme Court:

Third in rank is The Supreme Court members here are known as Lords or Ladies and like The High Council they are separated into their respective areas, for example Maxwell Bishop is current Lord Supreme and Hènria Mildew is Lady Hènria Mildew of Foreign Trade. The Lords and Ladies of The Supreme Court are appointed by the Monarch and serve for 5 years. The Lords and Ladies have some substantial knowledge in their specific area and aid the ministers of The High Court in their decisions however The Supreme Court CAN NOT create or enforce legislation. The Supreme Courts main role is to review the previous year’s legislation and ensure that it is written correctly, whilst they do not have the power to create or enforce legislation they can refuse to accept it therefore making it invalid.

The People Bureau:

Last on the list and considered the lesser of the 4 houses is The People Bureau it was set up in 1990 and consists of 50 elected members all of which must not be in the legaslative process already. The members of The Peoples Bureau are elected by the Monarch, the Prime Minister and the Lord Supreme. Elections take place every 4 years and no one person may sit for more than 1 term. Those eligible for election must follow a set of rules outlined by Jeremy Denning Lord Supreme (1989-1992) in the The Peoples Bureau Act (1990)

I. The members must be of the public and have been within the lands of Asiria for no less than 4 years.

II. No member may be apart of any political party, nor endorse a political party, nor contribute to any political party.

III. As concerns section 2, there must be no less than 5 years between such participation.

IV. The members must have NO criminal record, spent or unspent, which can be traced to less than 5 years prior.

V. The members must be of varied age, 18 years up-to and including 60 years, must be of varied race, black, white, mixed and others, must be of mixed sex and finally that of varied social background.

The Peoples Bureau is much like that of The Supreme Court, they review the past years legislation and are allowed to sit in The High Council if all ministers are not attending, however if, unlike The Supreme Court, they disagree with legislation they are not allowed to refuse it though they can voice their concerns.

Islands

Discussed in size order. Note each island has its own capital though Angorra is the national capital.

Brittany Bay Island

Brittany Bay Island is the largest island under New Asirian jurisdiction and by far the most heavily populated with some 200 million people taking residence here. Brittany is also home to the Capital of New Asiria, Angorra, as well as the Tristan Royal Palace, the only permanent household for the Royal family. It is the only island out of the 17 that has constantly remained under the control of the Monarchy and for this reason the cities of Angorra, Menist and Tyne are the largest population wise and commercially, with more than 300 businesses placing there hubs in one of the 3 cities. Brittany hosts an annual carnival on the 12th of May to celebrate the start of the summer months, the carnival lasts for 5 days and has become world famous. Though Angorra is the state capital Brittany opted for Tyne to be the island capital as that is where the most local government offices are based. Brittany is also home to New Asiria’s largest airport Thai-King International located about 20 minutes drive out of Angorra. The airport handles about 500 million people each year and there are plans to expand it, for further information look under Transportation. There are no warnings given out other than the standard tourism warnings.

Lyanna Island

Second in size but most likely to be least in importance, Lyanna is directly East of Brittany and is covered in vast thick rainforest. The island has one major city known as Jute or Jutus and this is the islands capital. The island is very popular with tourists though the only access to the island is via the Brittany Ferry, Oceanic Transportation (O.T) or a small road that links Brittany to Lyanna, though it is tolled at 40Ria (20USD) to cross due to high maintenance. It is on Lyanna that major research is carried out and of the 450 new species of animal discovered last year more than half were found in Lyanna’s rainforest. Lyanna’s population stands at about 400,000 people all of whom live in either Jute/Jutus or Senemay, a small town on the South side of the island. Tourists are warned when heading for Lyanna that, due to the high temperature and sudden monsoon storms that can last for days, there is a high death rate on Lyanna, roughly 1 in 3 tourists go missing and only 1 in 18 are found within the same year.

Brinan Island

Brinan is third in size and has but one city and settlement on the entire island, Youst, located on the Northern tip. Youst is the capital of Brinan and home to about 1,070,000 people. It has a small business district where some of the more luxurious companies base their headquarters, one of which is National Spas and Hotels. The island is mainly mountainous with New Asiria’s tallest mountain, Tall Paul, standing some 13,000 feet high; it was named after Paul Teak, the first man to climb to the top in 190A.D. The island is easy enough to get around with the Z41 running around the outer edge of the island and through the capital, for further information look under Transportation. The island boasts some of the most beautiful views and even the capital, Youst, overlooks the sea from more than 6,000 feet above. Warnings are given out due to the cold temperature and heavy snow in the winter though other than this the island is relatively safe.

Normandy Island

Normandy Island, fourth in size, was originally the home to the Norman Empire and the capital, Jean-teel, is still heavily influenced by its Norman routes. The city is astoundingly beautiful resembling that of Paris, minus the Eiffel tower! The island in general is small but compact with 12 towns located along the coastal region and the capital in the bay area. Normandy is a very flat island with many farms growing crops and harvesting wine, which it is famous for. Normandy boasts the Bijou Rouge wine (Red Gem Wine) which costs about 400Ria or 220 USD. The island is currently undergoing a slight renovation after a rather bad storm last year left most of the island in ruins. Tourism is not common in this area and therefore the government only published a minor report as concerns the weather.

Shannon Island

Shannon Island is fifth in size and also the most Southern located island. Its weather reflects this to a great deal, it is the only island that has noticeable seasons, but this has made the island very attractive. The local council, located in the capital city Bennerlin, plants thousands of autumn trees each year to ensure that the famous Boulevard, Monte Avril Boulevard, turns a gorgeous red each year. This is an expensive task as the local council constantly maintains the streets by clearing the dead leaves away and hanging lights to those trees that are bare. The island has New Asiria’s only major shipping port located on the very southern tip called Paradise Port. Originally the port was designed to hold 300 of the world’s largest container ships but gradually the business has been shipped to the port of Tyranny on the island of Tyranny Port. Since the container ships no longer arrive this has allowed Shannon Island to develop the local area for tourism and now more than 740 million tourists arrive on some of the world’s most luxurious cruise liners. Paradise Port is also the official hub for Oceanic Transportation, Royal Eastern Cruises and the luxurious Crystal Cruise and Ocean Company (C.C.O.C). Shannon is home to about 60,000,000 people, most of which live within the Paradise Port area. Those who have legal or government positions tend to live in Bennerlin or its suburbs. Again like Normandy Island, tourism here is uncommon other than in the port area of Paradise Port. The local government issues reports to tourists about dangerous sea creatures including the Sespian Squid (120 feet in length) and the Olive Jelly Fish. Reports concerning the mainland have to be acquired by the travel agent prior to the tourist’s holiday due to lack of tourism in these areas.

Western Asiria (Larger)

Western Asiria is sixth in size and the most deprived of all the islands. It is split up into two sections one island is more than double that of its smaller sister located directly east. Western Asiria was the ‘freedom’ lands for those who broke away from the king in the civil war of 1335. The islands were all but destroyed by war and the capital, Renette, is home to the islands complete population of 130,700,000. The government has spent over 4 billion Ria (2.2 Billion USD) in an attempt to rebuild the area though it has proved little worth. The island was originally connected to Shannon Island with a large volcano in the centre. In 1120 this erupted and the centre of island collapsed leaving a lake. Though crime in general is non existent, New Asiran government will often leave out Western Asiria when conducting annual reports due to it previously being a sole state, this portrays a false image as Western Asiria is riddled with crime. For this reason tourists are advised to remain in open, busy and bright areas and not wander around without an official guide (obtained from the council offices at Renette.

Tyranny Port

Seventh in size and located on the most western edge of New Asiria, Tyranny Port is a barren island devoured by commerce. Since the early 1990’s shipping has moved from all major ports in New Asiria, rendering all but 4 useless, to Tyranny Port and since this movement has occurred Tyranny Port has expanded. The port can now hold up to 17,000 container ships and 140 oil tankers but this major expansion has taken its toll on the island which has become a replica of a concrete factory. Very little of Tyranny is now open space with 70% being taken up for Container Holds and 23% for Oil storage facilities. The capital of Tyranny is Tyranny Port and is home to 31,200,000 people most of whom either work for the shipping companies or on their behalf. Tyranny government recently attempted to reclaim some of the storage holds in order to turn them into parks for the residents but this is proving difficult with Transco National Oil and Refineries (sole owner of the Oil facilities on Tyranny) asking for 300 million Ria, 165 million USD, per square meter of storage space reclaimed. Tourism is non existent on Tyranny and therefore the government publishes no tourist report though they do publish a labour safety report which is given to all staff of the ships docking at the port.

Julianna

Eighth in size and the most beautiful island of them all, Julianna is covered in light palm trees which stand before an entire coastline of golden beaches. The water is crystal clear and is constantly monitored to ensure contamination is at its minimum. Julianna has also banned all shipping from Tyranny passing within 30 miles of the island, something neither Tyranny’s government nor the shipping companies were pleased with. Along the entire Eastern side Julianna has its own coral reef known as Princess Reef, though tourists are restricted to which sections they can visit. The capital of Julianna is Prince City on the North Eastern tip overlooking the Julianna Bay. The island is home to 45,500,000 people many of which live in Hawaiian style houses. Julianna recently completed its final governmental project, The Pearl Complex. The Pearl Complex is discussed in more detail in the Economy and Business section, the complex is a set of 2,300 villas located on the South Eastern point looking onto Brittany Bay Island. Julianna is very popular with tourists most travelling from the main island of Brittany to Julianna, however the local airport, Princess Julianna, has seen a rapid increase from 2,000,000 passengers in 2000 to just fewer than 10,900,000 in 2007 a growth of almost 500%. The government has there ordered a new survey of the islands dangers this has reviled very little, the Princess Bear is still high on the list of dangers along side the unpredictable tides. A new addition to the list was the Brittany Shark which has been spotted several times along the south coast..

San-Ria Island

San-Ria, or club heaven, is the ninth island in size and the most deserted when it comes to permanent residents, being home to less than 200,000, however with a tourist count of more than 330 million last year the island is never empty. San-Ria was originally used as a stop over island for lorries and cars travelling to the more popular island of Brinan, however San-Ria now has 7 cities the largest and the capital, Ria-Rio, hosting 390 hotels and 1,480 clubs. The islands main customers are the young, wild and alcoholics with more clubs planned to be built later this year, including a Las Vegas style Mirrage hotel. The government, understanding tourism is now its only trade, has gone head to head with Las Vegas dedicating an entire 14 mile strip to themed hotels only, one of the first is the Parisian. Aside from drinking and gambling the island also has some of the longest beaches in Asiria rivalling those of Julianna, though with such a high tourist count it is still difficult to get a place in the sun. There are no real dangers in San-Ria though the government has issued two leaflets, Alcoholism Awareness and Gambling For Leisure NOT Life, Lord Lloyd Brothrin was heard saying “Doesn’t give a lot away does it?” shortly after visiting the island in 2006.

San-Delgatta

Sister to San-Ria and quite the opposite, our tenth island in size is more for those wishing to retire. The island is quiet, rural and peaceful with more space per person than any other island, even that of Western Asiria! With a population of 1,900,000, 79% of which are over the age of 70, the island is a delicate place to live with the houses all perfectly shaped and the gardens similarly pruned. The capital on San-Delgatta is Bornea located on the Southern tip of the island, though the city serves only as a governmental base. Along with the elderly the island is also home to the Delgatta university the best in New Asiria with 1 in 3 graduates passing with the highest mark and everyone else passing with a second, see education. The government funds many local activities and discourages tourism by placing toll bridges to those who do not have ‘residential passes’. Most of the money for the San-Delgatta government comes from the university that pays extortionate amounts in order to remain on the island.

Marianna Island

Marianna island is eleventh in size and has a large population to area ratio with 75,000,000 people living within the two cities of Marianna and Trianic. The two cities have expanded so much so that now there is only 4 miles between them, most theorists believe the two cities will become one by the end of the year. Marianna is the official capital though there has been debate over this fact since most of the people live in Trianic and the government has been gradually shifting business to the city since the early 1980’s. The island supports many retail outlets as well as the 4 largest soda factories in the world accounting for more than 23% of the worlds soda production, frighteningly only 31% of this gets exported! Marianna is currently spending excessive amounts of money on the port area of Trianic, the port being one of the 4 remaining, though many economists believe it is too little too late. Trianic is the main port for shipping to the neighbouring country of Theopneustos with roughly 67% of all ferries leaving Trianic Port. Tourism is quite strong in Marianna but most of it is ‘through flow’ from Theopneustos to the main tourist regions, though this maybe the case, Marianna has still funded many hotels and restaurant businesses in the port area which now handle roughly 740,000 tourists each year. The government issues a ‘Ferry safety report’ each year after the 1999 Marianna Queen disaster (see history) however there are no other major dangers.

Western Asiria (Smaller)

Twelfth in size and the smaller of Western Asiria’s two islands, Western Asiria’s main concentration on this island is mining. The smaller of the two islands is much more economically stable and a rather pleasant place to visit, depending on taste. The capital, Lakoff, has maintained its historical routes with many of the old temples of Western Asiria still remaining today. The island is organised into sectors, something no other Asirian island has done, restricting the heavy coal and mineral mining to the Eastern edge of the island whilst the commercial centres remain in the West. Western Asiria has recently constructed its first university, The Western Asirian University (W.A.U), and has already had successful first year results with most students getting seconds and thirds. Government spending has recently fallen on the industrial sector after a labour shortage placed production back by more than 2 years costing businesses 800 million Ria (440 USD). Fortunately this shortfall has been reduced and the industrial market has maintained some of its competitive edge. The government here has also allowed for a new airport and shipping port to be built one of the first in the world. The Airport/Port will be called Montenegro after the city in which it is to be built. The local Minister hopes that this will increase business in the area but also improve tourism which has been in decline since the 1950’s. Tourism accounts for less than 1% of Western Asiria’s income with less than 1,000,000 people visiting each year. The standards of its larger brother have tarred the smaller island, even though they currently operate as separate entities. The West Asirian Liberty Front also operates from here which has thrown speculation over the areas true desires. The government publishes a warning against heavy traffic and minor levels of crime though due to a low tourist throughput nothing more is mentioned.

Chauveau

The French Riviera but in Asiria, this thirteenth island in size was the most effected by the Norman invasion. The island is coated in wineries and breweries and through the capitals port of La Rosé more than 2 million tones of the stuff gets exported. Chauveau is apart of New Asiria though they remain outside of the major events and toll the bridges into and out of the area heavily. The island has attempted to create its own tourism infrastructure with its own Airport, New Chauveau, and port, La Rosé City Port, though the island has struggled, tourism is now taking off. Like in France and many other popular destinations Chauveau has its own designer shopping street known as Palace Avenue. The avenue is set out in a large square shape with a park in the centre. Shops along this high street include Passion, New Renaissance, Trendz and Aroma Parfume. The local government produces a leaflet about the local dangers including the A12 main road, there are also comments about ‘dangers’ of leaving Chauveau to go visit other local islands.

Saint Maurice Island

Fourth smallest and just about the quietest island there is, St Maurice Island is the Royal families main destination to holiday in the summer, for this reason the island is now coated with exquisite hotels and cafés in an attempt to lure the Royals. Recently there has been a lot of celebrity interest in the island but none more so than on the 15th of April through to the 15th of March when the island hosts the formula racing contest which include, Formula 1 cars, Formula 1 boats and, as of this year, Formula 1 Jets. The islands capital, Saint Moore, is located on the Northern tip of the island and is coated with private docks and yachts for those rich and famous celebrities, one of which is Olivier Yank. The islands small population of 130,000 tend to work in the cafés and bistros along the main beach front of Saint Moore though some also work in the administration offices on the other side of the city. Tourism is common on the island with roughly 1,500,000 tourists arriving each year, most of which will turn up on the Formula 1 race days. Tourists are warned about the possible dangers including various sea creatures though there are no major warnings issued.
