New Recife was one of the 1st expansion teams to join the QFL in 1893. The Zebras, as they are nicknamed after their white and black uniforms. Lake Porter City is their chief rival, but in recent seasons, neither side has played each other so the rivalry has somewhat diminished. New Recife holds the distiction of being the 1st QFL team to win both a Qazox Cup and a League Title and the only team ever to win both halves of the season, when the league had a split-season schedule. Also from 1896-98 were the only team to have competed in the Championship Match three consecutive times. Since then the Zebras have been disappointing, competing in Divisions Deux and Trae for most of the years since. A new 73,000 seat stadium, Henrí Savagé Stadium opened in 1909.

  • In 1898, New Recife's star Forward George Jung was found on September 3rd to have used steroids after a random drug screening taken in early August found positive traces of HGH in his system. The QFL was quick to suspend Jung for life, and forfeited all of New Recife's seven matches from the initial test date. New Recife, who had easliy won the 1st half title and had a record of 9-4-5 in the second half, finished the season in 8th place due to the forfeits. The team was allowed to play in the Championship match, as the offense occured after they had clinched the 1st half title.
