The Republic of Northeast US is a serene place that is made up of the Northeast United States. Though it was born in the blood of two Colonial Wars, it has lasted for decades in its current form. The Northeast is perfect for tourism and business opportunities.

Geography

The geography of the Republic of Northeast US is flat with with the mountains cutting through the center of the nation. It has numerous lakes and rivers as well as access to the ocean. This makes the weather patterns around the nation unpredictable.

Government

The Republic of Northeast US is a federal republic that is represented by a President and a bicameral legislature. The President is elected to a five year term through a two round voting system unless one leader gains more than 50% of the vote. The reason for this is that there are more than two political parties dominating politics. This makes for intricate elections.

Executive Branch

The Executive Branch is headed up by the President. In this branch of government, the Cabinet advises the President on occassion but it is ultimately the President that gives the final ok on projects. The president's cabinet include:

State:

Treasury:

Attorney General: Eric

Defense: Shawn McNamara

Commerce:

Environment:

Interior:

Space Exploration: Mr. McFarlan

For legislation, the President can propose legislation to Congress for them to pass or not. He can also veto any legislation that he does not like. He also appoints all federal judges at all three levels of the judiciary. He is also the chief diplomat and can enter into negotitions with any nation and make treaties that have to be ratified by the Senate with 2/3rds vote.

Legislative Branch

The Legislative Branch is broken into two houses, the House and Senate. The House is elected to two year terms and the Senate is appointed by the appropriate states to six year terms. In the House, it takes a coalition to elect a Speaker and once the Speaker is elected, he becomes the third person inline for the Presidency.

In the Senate, the Vice President is incharge and when he or she cannot be there, the President Pro Temp leads the Senate. S/He is also elected and normally takes a coalition as well unless someone has popular support among the delegates which is normally the case.

Judicial Branch

The Judicial branch is broken down into three parts. At the bottom, you have the Federal district Courts. This is followed by the Federal Appeals court then on to the Supreme Court of the Northeast US. The Supreme Court is made up of Five Judges who are appointed for life.

Economics

The nation is economicly sound as they continue to maintain a balanced budget. This is subscribed into their constitution. The budget is small but it is constently growing. The economic situation in the nation currently is Good.

Military

The Northeast Military has a fine tradition of excellence, disciplin, and victory. In every invasion of their homeland, they were able to beat back the defenders and chased them right out of the country. Though several wars had no conclusive ending, they defeated the Maine Confederacy during the Second Confederate-Republic, The Virginia Alliance during the First Colonial War, and the Carolina's during the Second Colonial war.

The military is divided up among the four branches of service: The Air Force, Navy, Marines, and Army.

NEUS Air Force

Main Article: NEUS Air Force (Coming soon)

The NEUS Air Force came into existence just prior to the outbreak of the first Confederacy-Republic War. It started out with no more than 20 bi-planes and were used primarily for scouting enemy positions prior to the army attacking. When the First Confederate-Republic War broke out, the government quickly expanded the air force and its role in warfare. At the Second Battle of Plattsburg, the fighters were the vanguard to the route of the Confederacy back beyond the borders. Upon their retreat, new fighters were sent to the front to attack enemy bases and cities. They also flew combat air patrol and attacked enemy formations causing panick throughout the Confederacy and led to a quick end of the conflict.

When the Second Confederate-Republic War broke out, air power played a key role on both sides of the conflict.

When things began to get hot with Ohio, the NEUS AF once again rose to the occassion and helped drive out the invaders and assisted in the invasion of Ohio. Though the army was turned back, the kill ratio in the First Ohio-Republic War was an impressive 10:1. During the Second Ohio-Republic War, the kill ration was 6:1. The Air Force played promanently in the campaign as this was primarily an Air War designed to destroy terrorist bases in Ohio. When the Third Ohio War broke out, the Air Force immediately attacked several Ohio Air Bases and destroyed several planes while they were still on the ground. During the ensuing fight, they kept the defenders from counter-attacking and managed to hold a line for the army to secure the OH 11 Corridore along with parts of the Ohio River.

NEUS Navy

Main Article: NEUS Navy (coming soon)

The NEUS Navy started out as the PA Defense Fleet and gradually grew when NY joined in the Northeast Alliance. Both of them collaberated and produced the Strictland Class Cruiser. This cruiser formed the basis of NE Alliance naval squadron till the Montgomery Class Battleship was produced after the Second Colonial War. The Montgomeries performed admirably during the First Confederacy-Republic War as they cut off the planned invasion of New York City. At the battle of New York Bay, five Montgomeries intercepted a flotella of Confederate ships and destroyed seven of them before the enemy could retreat. When the Republic began to push into the Confederacy, the Navy shelled shore fortifications and covered the landings of the Marines which took the port of Providence as well as various sea-side towns in Connecticut and Rhode Island.

The Second Confederate-Republic War saw the deployment of the New Davidson Class carrier, the first carrier ever built by any of the former colonies. The Confederacy also had carriers and used them to smash Philadelphia Harbor, New York Harbor, and other ports. Near the Great Lakes, The NEUS deployed their corvettes to counter the Confederacy's monitors. During the Battle of Lake Ontario, everyship on the lake for both sides were engaged in a fierce fight for control of the lake. After several hours of fighting, the Republic Navy triumphed and pushed deep into Confederate territory, cutting off all ports. At sea, ships began to cut off ports as well. The Confederate Navy was powerless to stop them as the battleships took care of anyone that came close. They also covered landings of the marines and army personnel as the Republic turned the tide of war and threw them back into their own territory and pursued. By the time it was all over, the Confederate Navy was destroyed.

Lake Erie presented some problems but they employed corvettes there as well as destroyer escorts to defend their harbors. During the first Ohio-Republic War, the Erie fleet attempted to blockade the ports in effort to stop materials from flowing into and out of the country. This was only partially successful because the Ohio fleet prevented them from getting into Cleveland. Down on the Ohio River, river monitors fired at one another but Ohio was never fully blockaded off.

The Second Ohio-Republic War saw some naval action but neither side made any serious attempt to penetratet the defenses. The third Ohio-Republic War however saw full naval action as the Lake Erie Fleet of the Republic attacked the ports of Conneaut, Ashtabula, and Cleveland, blocking them off from any outside help. On the lake, the monitors sealed off East Liverpool and Stuebanville before the current cease-fire took place.

NEUS Army

Main article: NEUS Army (coming soon)

The Army of the Northeast Alliance was established three months after NY and PA ratified the papers. It was a slow process in merging all the active army units under one command but once done, it became a well trained machine. Over the course of the next five years, mixed units began to form. When New Jersey joined the alliance, their units were quickly merged with those that already existed. When Delaware joined, the army was put to the test quickly. The Army acted like veterans even though they were forced back towards Albany. They quickly rallied however and forced them back and chased back to their homeland. When the war ended, there was talk of lowering the number of troops but it was decided that the Army needed to stay at current strength or be increased.

When the Second Confederate-Republic War broke out, the Army once again was called to the challenge of stemming and eventually turn back the tide. They managed to do this but not as quickly as in the First Confederate-Republic War. When they turned the tide of war, the enemy was closing in on NYC. They pushed them out of New York back into Vermont and Connecticut and this time, finished the job as they invaded the Capital city of Portland, Maine. Once the city was secured, the Maine Confederation ceased to exist and it was the Army's job of bringing in their former states.

When the dust setted from both wars, the Army was once again called on to defend the Republic but this time from Ohio. During the first Ohio-Republic War, the Army kept them from getting to far into PA and fought the war to a stalemate once they driven them out of PA and then were driven out in return. During the Second Ohio-Republic War, they launched skirmish missions into Ohio to destroy any terrorist bases they could fine. They did this in conjuction with air power. This war ended when Ohio promised to stop meddling in NEUS affairs.

After the Midland incident and the Congress voted for a third Declaration of War on Ohio, the Army launched its attack into Ohio driving straight towards Youngstown and Ashtabula in order to secure the OH-11 Corridor and to use this corridore to launch additional attacks deep into Ohio Territory. They accomplished this mission in two days and now occupy that portion of Ohio.

NEUS Marines

Main article: NEUS Marines (coming soon)

The Marines have a rich tradition of defending shore positions as well as being among the best of the best. It takes hard work and dedication to be a marine in the NEUS but once graduated from boot camp, one can honestly say they survived hell. The marines are also tagged with the defense of the Capital District of Wilkes-Barre as well as embassies overseas. These are the primary fighters when it comes to defending beacheads as well as taking beach heads. They fight and they do not surrender. Once they take the beaches, they secure the surrounding area and make way for the Army to fight inland.

The Marines have performed spectacularly during both Confederate-Republic Wars as well as all three Ohio Wars. During the Confederate Republic Wars, they raided the shore lines and destroyed ports to slow down the Confederate War effort. When the Republic was on the offensive, they took ports and held them so supplies can get through to the invading armies. During the Ohio Campaigns, they landed along the lake shore as well as the riverfront, splitting the defenders forces in half, thus making it easier to take the city they were attacking. The important cities that they took on their own was East Liverpool and Stuebanville during the Ohio Campaign and moved up from their to secure that portion of the Ohio River.

History

main article: History of the Republic of Northeast US

Early History

The history of the Northeast Republic has been a turbulent one. After the desolution of the United States through internal conflicts, several states form alliances with each other. The states that made up the North East were no exception. When PA and NY formed their alliance, many states in the surrounding region were not happy. Over the course of the next five years after the PA/NY Alliance, New Jersey joined and it became the Northeast Confederation. In response, Maine and her surrounding states quickly formed the Maine Confederacy. Over the course of several years, there was severe tension between the two alliances and when Delaware joined the Confederation, they changed their name to the Republic of Northeast US.

It was when Delaware joined that the First Republic-Confederation War finally erupted. The first battle took place in the city of Plattsburg, NY and from there, the Confederate Army made its way down towards Albany. However, they were turned back at the Battle of Saratoga. At this battle, the Confederate Forces were totally destroyed. Upon the destruction of the 1st Confederate regiment, the Northeastern Army made its way and recaptured territory that were taken by the Confederates. At the Second Battle of Plattsburg, the city was recaptured but only after the city was severaly damaged.

As the invasion of the Maine Confederacy commenced, the government of the Confederacy asked for peace terms and everything went back to Status Quo Ante Bellum. This set the people of the Republic in an uproar. After several months of fighting, the people expected something better than the return to status quo. In response to this, President Ryan Anderson was impeached and thrown out of office. The rebuilding after the war brought economic ruin to the Republic along with most of the continent as major trading centers were damaged and harbors were destroyed. It took years to rebuild the infrastructure and by the time it was mostly rebuilt, the second Confederate-Republic war erupted. The Main Confederacy learned from their mistakes and attacked several places at the same time. The bombed New York, took Plattsburg, and invaded New Jersey. The Confederacy plan nearly succeeded but a rallying defense by the Northeastern Army prevented the invasion of Pennsylvania. A couple months after the Confederacy defeat at the Battle of the Border, the Northeastern Forces re-invaded New Jersey while additional forces routed the enemy at Liberty, NY. By the end of the year, the Confederacy was pushed back into their own borders and the Northeastern Army followed them. Six months later, the capital of the Maine Confederacy fell and with it, the entire Maine Confederecy. Over the course of the next three years, the former Maine Confederacy was absorbed into the Northeast US.

Current History

With the defeat and absorption of the Maine Confederacy, the economy began to soar like never before. The Northeast became an economic powerhouse on the continent. Then trouble started on their Western Border. The Republic of Ohio decided to try and lop off some territory from the Northeast US and resulted in the first Republic-Ohio War. After initial gains made by Ohio, they were forcibly turned back and the NEUS Army took control of the war and drove into Ohio capturing East Palestine and moving up towards Youngstown. Ohio in turned counter-attacked and the war ended in a stalemate. After three months of shelling across the border, the war ended with a peace treaty. Trouble soon arose a few years later when Ohio passed a law claiming the entire Ohio River Valley. A few weeks after this bill was passed, they hired people to cause problems throughout the Northeast in an effort to push them to give up the rest of the River. This ultimately backfired as the NEUS AF ultimately launched air assaults at these bases which sparked the second Republic-Ohio War. This was primarily an air campaign as both sides launched bombing raids. Even though both sides launched skirmishes into eachother's territories, no one gained any territory and the war pettered out. All of that changed when Ohio launched a monitor raid and pulled out. This resulted in the deaths of NEUS citizens. A few days later, NEUS declared war on the Ohio Republic and stormed across the border and took the whole OH 11 corridore along with East Liverpool and Stuebanville. The current war is on hold pending peace talks with the rest of the Liberty Alliance.

With this war on hold, additional forces have been called up to help with a new threat. This threat is from Wutend and is currently invading Deltain. The Northeast Republic along with other nations are forming a coalition to combat Wutend.

Culture

The culture is very similar to that of the rest of the modern world. The people accept people for the way they are and it does not matter what race you are. There are several races that make up the Northeast US. Women tend to stay home more during early childhood years of their children but once they are in school, they go right back into work.

Religion

There are many different religions and all with their own holidays. Due to the sheer number of them, only a handful became federal holidays. These include (in no particular order)

Passover

Christmas

Thanksgiving

Ramadan (First and Last only)

On these days, the kids have off and nothing is opened. Other holidays include:

Foundation Day

Veterans Day

Memorial Day

These are also federal holidays in which nothing is opened.

Ethnicity

The ethnic make up is not as diverse as some. Some of the minorities that make up the Northeast US include blacks, hispanics and arabs.

Marriage

The marriage laws in the country are somewhat lax. All one needs is a marriage license at least five days in advance of the big day and witnesses while an officiate does the ceremony. Also, the age of consent at which one can marry without parental permission is 16.

Sports

The sports scene of the country is predominately in favor of Footall. The primary league is the NEFL. This league also has a minor league where the Professional Teams groom their up and coming stars. The teams that belong to the Professional League are:

  • Boston Falcons
  • New York Saints
  • Pittsbrugh Bridges
  • Buffalo Otters
  • Philadelphia Sharks
  • Wilkes-Barre Colts
  • Erie Knights
  • Harrisburg Warriors
  • Albany Wizards
  • Dover Browns
  • Hartford Dolphins
  • Vermont Mountaineers

Other sports include Ice Hockey, Baseball, and Basketball. Soccer is beginning to become popular ever since the National Team was announced and there is talk of starting a National Soccer League.
