On the first day of February in 2007, Nwoh awoke to hear a gruesome tale. The night before, the powerful Bradlieb political family attempted to overthrow the sultanate. The effects of the rebellion and the instability it caused will remain in Nwoh for decades to come.

Relationships

The Tebeaus

Fmr. Sultan Punxsutawney Tebeau and Sultana Khmera Tebeau (born Sakhalin) bore four children: Sultan Atahualpa Tebeau, HRH Hueyi Tebeau, HRH Juumandjii Tebeau, and HRH Vietlao Ojicree (born Tebeau). Both the Former Sultan and his wife died of natural causes. Fmr. Sultan Punxsutawney Tebeau was born in 1934. In 1953, when the Germans rose up against the Ottawa, Fmr. Sultan Punxsutawney Tebeau was the only member of the royal family to survive a German attack; thus, only his descendants have claim to the throne.
Sultan Atahualpa Tebeau and Sultana Annastiina Tebeau (born Vanhanen) recently bore three children: Prince Axayacatl Tebeau, Prince Nocha Tebeau, and Prince Tenoch Tebeau. HRH Hueyi Tebeau is childless. HRH Juumandjii Tebeau and HRH Victoria Tebeau (born Cruise) were then pregnant with what would have been their first child. HRH Vietlao Ojicree married Critugee Ojicree, and they had three children: HRH Venezia Ojicree, Valencia Ojicree, and Vilnius Ojicree.

The Bradliebs

The Bradlieb political family is one of the strongest in Nwoh. Two of the eleven governors are Bradliebs, along with countless mayors. The Bradlieb branch most important to the Nwohan Rebellion is the Jakobian branch. Jakob Bradlieb and Leslie Bradlieb (born Krabbe) bore Johann, Friedrich, Wilhelm, Walter, Monika Kujawa (born Bradlieb), and Wilhelmina Hesse (born Bradlieb). Johann and Tara (born Grossman) bore Governor (of Neu Schleswig) August Bradlieb and Mayor (of Jutlas) Sophia Welf (born Bradlieb). Friedrich and Johanna (born Aufburg) bore Governor (of Baltica) Kraft Bradlieb and Julian Bradlieb. Wilhelm and Erica (born Stark) bore Mayor (of Schwertwal) Kurt Bradlieb. Walter and Augusta (born Reuss) bore Mayor (of Wodkahof) Andy Reuss (Walter died before Mayor Andy Reuss was born and thus he has retained his mother's maiden name). Monika Kujawa (born Bradlieb) and Dietrich bore Mayor (of Mehrkraft) Johann Kujawa (who married Lucia, the daughter of Don Mario Marzetti). Wilhelmina Hesse (born Bradlieb) and Elliot bore Mayor (of Bierwein) Zachary Hesse and Mayor (of Hoheit) Hannah Hesse (who is unmarried). Mayor (of Krafter) Heinrich Garstein is the grand-nephew of Leslie Bradlieb (born Krabbe). Leslie's brother, Gerhardt Krabbe bore Henrietta Garstein (born Krabbe), who married Rudolf Krabbe. Rudolf and Henrietta bore Mayor Heinrich Garstein.

Causes

Old Wounds

In 1900, Germany began to rapidly colonize Nwoh, pushing the native Ottawa to the western shore. Ethnic tensions flared, and the Ottawa rose up in 1901; however, the Germans, replenished thanks to the mother country, quashed their rebellion. During the first world war, the Ottawa succeeded in wresting Nwoh from German control (unsubstantiated rumors claim this was done with British support), but their reign was short-lived. The Germans regained control in 1921 and would stay in power for another twenty-two years. Then, lightning struck twice. In 1943, with Germany ferociously involved in the war in Europe, the Ottawa rose up again, gaining control. A decade later, the "native" Germans fought back and reclaimed all of Nwoh except the western shore. This history of belligerence between the two ethnicities has caused a perhaps permanent enmity between the two.

Imperfect Independence

Nwoh became independent in 2006. In 1994, the UN demanded Germany to give Nwoh its independence; however, the independence movement was slow due to differences between the Ottawa Tribe in the west and the Germans in the east. After a protracted debate, the two sides met in Helsinki with Finnish Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen. Miraculously, the two sides agreed to form a harmonious alliance and unite under one nation insofar as that government did not take too much power. The Germans allowed the leader of the Ottawa Tribe, Sultan Tebeau, to be a ceremonial leader. While still possessing some power, the greater control lies in the Congress, whose members are popularly elected.
Initially, the accord was applauded as a great appeasement, as it seemed to strike the appropriate balance between the two ethnicities. Yet the November elections of 2006 brought back old memories.

The November Elections

The November elections saw the formation of a Left and a Right coalition. The Right coalition comprised (among others) the BGG and the DFU. The former was the party of the sultan, and the latter was the party of both the president and vice president, along with being the major party of Congress. To make matters worse, the executive election saw the DFU finish in first with 33% and the BGG in second with 28%. The DLP finished a dismal third at 14%. This result left the Left coalition out of power.

The Murderous Bill

Within the first week of 2007, it had become apparent that civil war could tear Nwoh apart. When the Right coalition passed a bill declaring that parties would be awarded federal funds for future elections by the percentage of vote they won in the previous executive election (an ex post facto bill), the DLP screamed to the world for help.

International Help

Lucia Kujawa (born Lucia Marzetti), the wife of Mehrkraft's Mayor Johann Kujawa, is the daughter of Don Mario Marzetti, the head of the Desto branch of the Sicilian Mafia. With the help of Don Mario (who was and is a fugitive in an unknown nation), Mayor Kujawa formulated a plan to enact a governmental coup d'etat.
Don Mario was to provide weapons and funds, along with surveillance, to the DLP. In exchange, the Sultan of Nwoh was to pass on to Lucia as sultana. In the event that she bore no children (as at the time she was barren), the sultanate would pass to Don Mario and then to his children by Salic Law.
The DLP agreed to Don Mario's request and began implementing the plan.

The Night of 1/31

Slaughter in Frühlingfeld

The sultan woke up January 31, 2007 like he did on every normal day. He went about his normal routine without any major deviations. At 10:00 at night, he went to bed. His wife joined him minutes later after she tucked in their three young sons.
Meanwhile, Don Mario's plan began to go into effect. At 10:00 PM, the secret service guards rotated shifts. Shift A lasts from 2:00 PM - 10:00 PM, Shift B from 10:00 PM - 6:00 AM, Shift C from 6:00 AM - 2:00 PM. The commanding officer of Shift A, Osceola Ulru, left the palace at 10:05 after ensuring the arrival of Shift B. Shift B's commanding officer was Friedrich Rechtmann. At 11:00 PM, Shift B's Johann Gessler gave glasses of wine to every member of the shift. Despite protocol forbidding secret servicemen from drinking on the job, they all, including and led by Mr. Rechtmann, drank. Mr. Gessler's glass was the only one which did not contain an illegal sleeping pill, Schlafjetzt. The pill is illegal because of the immediacy with which it causes sleep and for its addictiveness. By 11:05 PM, Mr. Gessler was the only man on Shift B left awake.
Johann Gessler went first to the room of the three infant princes: Prince Axayacatl Tebeau, Prince Nocha Tebeau, and Prince Tenoch Tebeau. He shot and killed all three princes, using a gun with a silencer. He then went into the royal bedchamber and executed both the sultan and his wife.
Mr. Gessler then fled the palace. His murders would not be discovered until Shift C came to replace Shift B at 5:55 AM. At 5:59 AM, the still sleeping bodies of the remainder of Shift B were discovered. At 6:00 AM, the bodies of the sultan and sultana were discovered. At 6:01 AM, the bodies of the three princes were discovered. At 6:02 AM, Shift B realized that Mr. Gessler had fled. At 6:05 AM, a warrant was issued for his arrest.

The Bwija Assassination

The sultan's eldest brother, HRH Hueyi Tebeau, never married. He lived in the city of Bwija, in the Canton of Ojibwa. Mayor Heinrich Garstein of Krafter, a small city with a slim German majority approximately thirty miles away from Bwija, drove to Bwija at 3:00 PM. He had dinner with HRH Hueyi Tebeau while they discussed a recent revival of anti-German sentiment from the Ottawa of Krafter. HRH Hueyi Tebeau agreed to issue a press statement on February 2, 2007, which would have urged the Ottawa to respect the German presence. As a token of friendship, HRH Hueyi Tebeau agreed to have Mayor Heinrich Garstein stay the night in the house of HRH.
At 10:00 PM, HRH dismissed his secret service from the inside of his house, as he often did. They were to monitor the perimeter. At 11:00 PM, HRH fell asleep. At 12:00 AM, Mayor Heinrich Garstein, using the same weapon that Johann Gessler had used, murdered HRH. At 12:05, Mayor Garstein left the house, explaining to Wilhelm Stimmann, the chief of the watch, that Mayor Garstein's wife had just went into labor. Without first checking the status of HRH, Mr. Stimmann allowed Mayor Garstein to speed away. His location is currently unknown.

The Battle of Mitugaine

The sultan's youngest brother, HRH Juumandjii Tebeau, lived in Mitugaine in the Canton of Ojibwa. At 5:55 AM, HRH was fast asleep beside his pregnant wife. It would have been her first child. Eleven guards were assigned to watch the family. Two stood outside their bedroom doors-Ypsilanti Salmee and Erie Yuron. One stood inside the house, beside the main door-Kimri Mufa. One stood inside the house, beside the only other door (at the backside of the house)-Itugsper Rafog. Seven stood outside at various locations along the perimeter-Pishna Krijua, Hiver Ryte, Lysoy Junier, Uheu Heyyu, Ahedy Uhjer, Uner Huen, and Porisne Nerquin.
Led by Julian Bradlieb, a militia of Germans from Krafter stormed the house of HRH. In a surprise attack, the entire outside guard was killed within an instant. The front and back doors were simultaneously broken down. Kimri Mufa managed to issue an SOS, but it was to the already-dead Pishna Krijua and so was pointless. Kimri Mufa did not kill a single German before being killed himself; however, Itugsper Rafog killed three attackers before dying: Gerhardt Eber, Michael Danube, and Karl Ober, all of Krafter.
It is unknown who precisely killed HRH Juumandjii Tebeau and his wife, Victoria Tebeau, but they both died at approximately 6:08 AM. The militia then disbanded and fled, presumedly back to Krafter or even perhaps to a foreign nation.

Deception in Hoheit

The marriage of HRH Vietlao Ojicree and HRH Critugee Ojicree was in a sorry state. Both knew the other was having an affair, and neither cared. In fact, they scheduled their trysts for the same night. On 1/31/07, HRH Critugee Ojicree went to meet his mistress in Hoheit. His mistress was Mayor Hannah Hesse of Hoheit. The guards of HRH followed him to her house but accepted his demand for them to stay outside. At approximately 3:05 AM, Mayor Hannah Hesse shot and killed HRH. The murder was not discovered until the news spread about the deaths of the sultan and his family.

Deception in Schwertwal

Simultaneously, HRH Vietlao Ojicree went to Schwertwal to have her affair with Mayor Kurt Bradlieb of said city. Like her husband, HRH demanded the guards to stay outside. At approximately 4:14 AM, Mayor Kurt Bradlieb shot and killed HRH. The murder was not discovered until the news spread about the deaths of the sultan and his family.
