Overview

The West Frontier of Orthodox Monetarism is an economic powerhouse in the region of the Commonwealth of Hall and is widely noted for its environmental devastation - many parts of the country exist as simply dustbowls - as successive Chief executives and dodgy accountants have put economic growth before any environmental considerations. The government - or what exists of it under the chairmanship of Sir Grant Davies - displays an almost religious devotion to pursuing free-market orientated policies & the furthering of the economic doctrine of monetarism - over the last 3 decades the government has privatized almost every aspect of public life and eradicated social welfare from the economic system. These policies have been repeatedly defended by the board as necessary since under orthododox monetarist law, tax is totally illegal and government spending forbidden. Socially the nation is extremely liberal - murder is legal on most days (although there are notable exceptions - it is highly illegal to kill a child on December 25th); homosexuality is universally accepted; free speech is paramount and gun restrictions are non-existent. However some have argued that the nation's complete lack of social welfare and feeling has crippled the idea of a society in the West Frontier and many hold such policies as primarily responsible for the soaring gun crime, murder rates and health problems in the population as a whole. Chairman Davies has dismissed such claims as propaganda of the Puffin Party. Internationally the West Frontier is opposed to the United Nations and renounced its membership long ago, politically it has no real allies but is on good terms with its fellow nations in the Commonwealth Of Hall.

History

The West Frontier of Orthdodox Monetarism was born out of a civil war between two rival multi-national companies - the freedom-loving Pepsico-Corporation and the authoritarian statists Coca-Cola. At that time the country was known as 31 The Burrows and ruled with an iron fist by a maniacal anti-semite Grant Von Davies, a tool of the Coca-Cola company. Jews and other minorities were tortued & murdered during these dark times and the good citizens of the country subject to ever increasing intrusive regulations on their lives. However a small bearded economist, Grant Davies, began to oppose the tyrannical regime and promote economic liberty and freedom. He and his merry band of followers used restrictive money supply growth rules to destroy the statist economy from within and produce a national uprising against the evil dictator Von Davies and his deputy Graham Von Thomas. The NRA gladly supplied Double Barrel Shotguns to the rebels who were able to gain control of many of the country's smaller provincial cities. A civil war between these pepsico-backed monetarist freedom fighters and statist coca-cola authoritarians raged for 13 years before Von Davies was forced into exile on Tusker Rock, Porthcawl after The Battle of Cartwright Gardens where the authoritarians were finally defeated. Immediately following the exile of Von Davies, Davies was appointed chairman of the board of the newly-named 'West Frontier of of Orthodox Monetarism'. The country's shares were immediately floated on the international stock market, and the proceeds used to line the board member's pockets.

Economy

The vast economy of the Frontier is totally driven by the private sector and is dominated by the Uranium, Pepsi and Alcohol Industries. The main export of the country is 'west frontier gin', and is also thought to be the nation's biggest killer. The official economic policy of the country is dictated by the McCallum Monetary Rule equating monetary growth with GDP growth adjusted for Velocity changes in the previous time period. The country suffers from an appaulingly unequal distribution of income.

Capital city

The capital of the West Frontier of Orthodox Monetarism is Eastwood, situated on the South coast. Initally a small coastal town, it has since developed into an enchanting metroplis beside the sea with rolling beaches and a vast array of attractions. Eastwood also encompasses the administrative and legislative capital of the Frontier - the Jolly Sailor Inn, where any bills are passed after 10 pints of SA on a saturday night and immediately repealed on a Sunday morning. Unfortunately for the past 10 years the air of Eastwood has been unbreathable due to the billowing pollution welcomed by the current chairman and the sea has degenerated into a seething mass of fungus and filth. This filth is bottled and exported as 'west frontier value gin' and is part of the international vagrant's staple diet.

Politics

Although the region has many political parties and groups, they exist more as social clubs since no political organisations have any real power in the country as a whole. The majority party on the board at the moment are the Libertarian 'at least we don't shoot children' Party led by Chairman Davies, and the main opposition group consist of an unholy alliance between the remnants of the Angry Puffin Party ( basically an anti-semitic authoritarian grouping), enviromentalists backed by their vicous paramilitary wing 'the New Keynesians' and of course, Nelson Mandela. However, these opposition groups have been unable to make any electoral ground since the citizens of the Frontier seem far more interested in whether their neighbours have bigger guns than any fundamental political change in the country.
