A Brief Overview of Oslea

Oslea is a large nation numbering over 900 million people. The government is capitalist and democratic, and highly values human rights. Freedom of Religion is granted in the country. Most citizens are considered well-off by many parts of the world, although there are many homeless on the streets due to a low Social Welfare budget and an increasing rich-poor gap. The country itself is very wealthy, and is on the cutting edge of technology in both civilian and military applications. The environment is regarded as one of the worst in the world since the expansion of the economy highly damaged the environment, and though residential and commercial cities in Oslea may look very clean, the industrial cities are considered smoggy pigstys, with water so contaminated and dirty government officials send in bottled water from the mountain regions of Oslea for the populace to use.

The Birth of an Empire, a transition to a Federation

The Federation did not exist in the days of swords and sandals. It was an Empire back in those days. The Empire was started in 1700 BCE by the legendary Emperor Rovidas who claimed to have built a city with his bare hands out of stone when he was a teenager. The city housed his wife Amber, but when she fell and died to an unknown disease, the Emperor remembers the moment when her crown dropped from her head so vividly he named the city Amber's Crown, which changed into Amber Crown over time. The Emperor quickly commanded the fierce archers of the Oslean army and would lead them into battle himself, and often finding a high place for his archers to attack from. He won many battles this way and won lots of land. By 1 CE, his successors ensured the Oslean Empire continued its growth, and was already half as huge as the Federation is today.

By 1201 CE, the Oslean Empire had reached the epitome of its existence, being twice as huge as today's Oslean Federation. It prosepered, and the Empire stayed on top of technology's cutting edge and was never behind. People with different religions from around the region forced the Empire to shrink in half in attacks at around 1600 CE, as the Oslean Empire was strictly Christian at the time and often made war with non-Christian nations.

People were fed up with the attacks by 1732 CE. The Emperor of that time, Emperor Ricardo, was extrememly unpopular due to the mishandling of the war, and was killed. A man named Joseph Storr took over, and christened the Empire the Federation of Oslea. He installed a democratic system, and gave people equal rights and stopped discriminating against non-Christians. The attacks were then stopped due to a new level of religious tolerance.

The Military of Oslea

The military has been a huge part of Oslea ever since it was an Empire. The military is divided into 3 departments; The Air Force (OSAF), the Army, and the Navy.

The Army

Oslean Army soldiers are trained to handle basic battlefield situations and know different tactics for different fronts of battle. The organization of the infantry of the army is based on many other countries army systems. Oslean Army infantry organization is as follows:

Special Forces of the Army

The Oslean Army has several Special Operations forces at its disposal. Each and every one has their own strengths, and each has its weaknesses. Joint operations are common between the Special Forces units for the purpose of eliminating one's weakness with one's strength.

The Rangers

The Rangers are the proudest and most well-known Special Operations group in Oslea. There are actually two different units within the Rangers; the Splinter Cell unit and the Spearhead unit. When someone refers to an Oslean Ranger, usually they refer to the Spearhead Unit as they are the more famous part of the Rangers.

Splinter Cell Rangers

The Splinter Cell Rangers are stealthy and very efficient at taking out individual targets, for example, a corrupt politician. SC Rangers almost always avoid direct combat; instead they go for hit and run tactics. Usually by the time Splinter Cell Rangers strike, they will be gone by the time someone cleans up the mess. Splinter Cell Rangers usually scout out enemy territory, and eliminate high-value enemy personnel. It is unknown whethere Splinter Cell Rangers have actually seen combat, but there is strong proof that Splinter Cell fireteams eliminated two Honakon Defence Commissioners.

The Splinter Cell Rangers were founded in 1836, when Spearhead Rangers were designated to take out an enemy commander in the Oslean Sea War. Since the Rangers involved in the operation used un-Rangerlike tactics to take out the commander, the General referred to them as a "Splinter Cell" and the Splinter Cell Rangers were born.

The preferred weapon of the Splinter Cell Rangers is the silenced HK MP5. Splinter Cell agents do not usually carry anti-armor systems along with them since they usually just sneak past armor, but if it is required, LAWs from the Rangers can be borrowed to use for the mission. M24 Sniping Systems are the choice sniper rifle for Splinter Cell Snipers. SC Rangers do not usually carry loud weapons with them, such as an M249 SAW, but there are exceptions.
