The Commonwealth of Pagemaster is a very peaceful nation located in the International Democratic Union. Normally a socially progressive nation, it has begun a shift towards greater political freedoms.

History
The Commonwealth of Pagemaster began life as a loose alliance between the citizens of Contemplation Island, Horse Island, Serenity Island and Farside Island in the year 1747. The allies soon began to work closer together and merged into a formal united government in 1780, that was named after the writer of the new nation's constitution, an individual known only as the Pagemaster. The commonwealth began to expand, colonizing unoccupied land south of the nation of Groot Gouda. This land enventually became the states of Royal Pagemaster and East Pagemaster in 1805 and 1806. In 1812, growing tension between the citizens of the new states over where the actual boundry existed between them led to an outbreak of violence that eventually drew in the rest of the commonwealth states. The Pagemaster Civil War lasted for 8 years before peace was declared in 1820. While there was no clear victor, the Victory river was settled on as the offical boundry and a new city was founded on the river stretching in to both states as a symbol of peace and as a memorial to the 1 million killed in the conflict. Pagemaster City was soon named the new capitol of the commonwealth, replacing Destiny City on Serenity Island. The next few decades passed without major bloodshed or disaster. In mid-2005, the Commonwealth was invited to join the growing International Democratic Union. Eager to join an alliance that supported democracy, peace, and knoweledge(ideals that Pagemasterites hold very dear)the resolution to join passed with overwhelming support by the people and in the Commonwealth Senate. Shortly after joining the IDU, Pagemaster has given possesion of a part of an island already partial occupied by the nation of Malabra. This small possession soon became known as the state of Union. Since then, Pagemaster has enjoyed greater peace and economic advantages(with the exception of the recent Raiders War, during which the commonwealth resigned its IDU membership and left to combat a group of raiders that had disrupted life during membership with a previous alliance) In early 2006, President Page accepted the position of Representative of the IDU to The Democratic League. Bringing greater hope to Pagemaster for a more peaceful future. Unfortunatly, that alliance was not to last. After much debate and a vote, the IDU withdrew its alliance with the League.
Government
The Pagemaster government is based on the system of the United States of America. There are three branchs, the Executive branch, Judicial Branch and Legislative branch. The differences are small between the U.S.A and the Commonwealth. There are almost no differences between the Executive branches, eexcept that the President's term lasts six years and he can only serve two terms. The Pagemaster Supreme Court has its justices elected by the people, however it continues to hold the same powers as before. The Legislative branch is the primary difference, it is a unicameral body. The Commonwealth Senate is made up of Ten delegates from each state within the Commonwealth. Each Senator is elected to a 5 year term, however all senators are not up for relection at the same time, instead it is rotated, to two senators per state per year are up for relection in any given year.
Geography
Pagemaster is comprised of mostly lowlying plains and forests along a coastal area. Much of Pagemaster's population can be found living on one of the five island states that comprise much of Pagemaster or along the expansive coastline of mainland Pagemaster. The Victory River is the largest river in Pagemaster and flows south through mainland Pagemaster forming the border of East Pagemaster and Royal Pagemaster.
National Symbols
Flag
The flags of Pagemaster have always represented the nation's commitment to peace and knowledge. The latest flag is white, symbolizing purity overalid with a red seven point triangle. The 7 points symbolize the seven states that make up Pagemaster. The dove in the center of the triangle stands for peace and serenity. The book in the upper left hand corner lies on top of a blue feather(a symbol of the IDU) both of which symbolize knowledge. The letters PM, which are stamped on the books open pages, stand for the Pagemaster, the founding father of the Commonwealth. The red coloring used on the triangle and dove stands for the those who gave their lives to defend this nation and have stained the flag with their blood to defend those freedoms.
National Animal
The horse became Pagemaster's national animal as a symbol of peace. The horse has few natural enemies, it is a peaceful creature that is content in its life. A creature of burden, it is willing to accept the weight of others to help make life easier.
Flower/Tree
The Dogwood tree and its flowers are a national symbol of Pagemaster. The dogwood tree is reknown for its incredible toughness. A toughness the locals have compared to the resilience of Pagemasterites to bend in the face of danger to their way of life. Though there are many stories attributed to the Dogwood flower, Pagemaster adopted the flower as a national symbol at the end of the Pagemaster Civil War. The peace ceremony took place beneath a group of dogwood trees and the flowers and petals fell all around and on the participants and treaty, earning the flower a place in histoy.
Holidays
- Democracy Day (July 24)- IDU holiday also celebrated in Pagemaster
- Victory Day (Novermber 17)- Date of the end of the Raiders War, a great day for Pagemaster, as it finally brough an end to a conflict that had lasted for many years.
- Rememberance Day (April 15th)- End of the Pagemaster Civil War. (The actual peace treaty was signed on a different day. This is the day the fighting stopped)
