Introduction

Full Name: The Democratic Federation of Parlim

Adjective: Parlimian

People: Federals

Parlim is a mighty, high tech, space faring nation that lives in a system across the galaxy from Earth and the Sol System. Based from the Horizon System, the Federation is a bastion of technological and economic development, and their military is perhaps one of the best in the world.

History

Parlim dates back to the late 1700s (the exact date is unknown), when a group of English-speaking colonists discovered a large, temperate landmass. The small group explored the landmass for months, soon discovering it to be a huge island, about the size of Australia. After the initial exploration, the colonists gathered together and formed a single small colony on the coast, which they named Dras-Leona, after the two ruling families, the Drase and the Leona.

The small colony prospered as a trade port, the lands providing an ample amount of gold, as well as fertile soils in which to grow corn. Slowly the city grew, attracting more and more citizens as trade became more and more profitable. Several more colonies were established, all flying different flags, at various points and places on the newly named continent, Parlim.

The Unification

By the mid 1800s, Parlim wasn't even an idea of a nation. Several superpower city-states struggled to control the rich island, however open conflict had yet to break out. That all changed when a neighboring state attacked Dras-Leona, nearly destroying the city and killing many of its citizens.

As the Dras-Leonians rebuilt, a new feeling captivated their minds. Revenge. Within months of the city's reconstruction, an army was assembled and launched into the neighboring cities. Even more months later, the island was united under the Dras-Leonian flag. The newly forged nation took the name of the island. And thus, Parlim was born.

The Silent Revolution

For decades, the nation thrived as a democracy, until the Silent Revolution, when the democracy was peacefully disassembled and rule was handed to the corporations. It was then that Parlim finally started down the road to the status of economic superpower. Decades more passed, and the thriving nation join the Meritocracy, an alliance of mostly like-minded people.

The Great Exodus

Their stay in the Meritocracy was short, however. Huge leaps and bounds in technology led to Parlim establishing a moon-base. Soon after, the choice was made to leave Parlim (which had since become horribly polluted, urban wasteland) and the Earth altogether. Massive colony ships, capable of housing the entire population, were constructed and blasted off, leaving Earth behind. All assets left behind were given to their greatest ally, Thrashia.

The Parlimians soon found themselves a new home, in the form of a new solar system, across the galaxy from Earth. They dubbed it the Horizon System, and dismantled their massive colony ships to build huge space cities. The Horizon Democratic Republic of Parlim was born amidst the stars, headed by President Maverick.

Political Turmoil

The Republic thrived in their new system, but in the shadows, enemies lurked. When President Maverick died, the Council elected Admiral of the Fleet and a former Protoge of Maverick's, William Cloudshore. He governed peacefully until he was assassinated by Quinton Harpool, who immediately seized power and formed an empire.

His claim to power would be a short one, however. Anna Maverick, daughter of the former president and widow of William Cloudshore, spearheaded a resistance movement, quickly deposing Harpool and taking control herself.

Birth of the Federation

Anna, however, did not enjoy the task of ruling Parlim, and although she loved her country, stepped down and gave power to James Mexico, a close family friend. She soon disappeared and her whereabouts are currently unknown. Mexico, himself an Admiral and Captain in the Navy, reorganized Parlim into a military-led Federation.

Parlim grew exponentially the next few years, an economic superpower. Life was better than before for its citizens, as High Marshall Mexico guided the country with a firm, but caring, hand. This is the Parlim known today.

Government

Parlim is broken down into several large cities. The system is fairly loose and flexible. Cities within the Federation only need follow a certain list of rules, and are otherwise free to do their own thing. Each city is ruled by a council of eight. Each councilmember is or has been a military officer of some rank. The councils make local decisions and laws, and they answer directly to High Marshall Mexico, who has direct authority over the military and Parlim. When and if the High Marshall needs replacing, several candidates are chosen by the governing councils and are then voted on (by the councils). The one with the most votes wins.

At birth, Parlimians are made residents. Residents have certain civil and political rights, including the right to vote for their city's council members and other officials. However, residents are denied the right to run for office until an optional term of military service is completed. After their term of service, residents are made citizens, and are allowed to run for office, among other rights. In Parlimian society, residents and citizens are considered equals, since the difference between both is a choice. There are wealthy and powerful residents and likewise there are poor citizens. The difference between the two is not an economic one.

Geography

Federals (inhabitants of Parlim) do not live on planets like most peoples, instead on giant space-cities in various parts of their system. The Horizon System will be detailed below.

The Horizon System is an eleven planet system, with binary suns. Only three of the planets are habitable, and two of them are half wild-life preserves and half mining planets. The other is an ice planet, nearly devoid of life but still habitable.

Note: Moons will only be listed if they have some sort of value or importance.

Planets

Ilea

Ilea is the planet closest to the twin suns, and is, as a result, a burning planet, hot enough to kill any human that might set foot on it, no matter what protection that person might have. Volcanoes and lava cover the majority of Ilea. It has two moons.

Icsioth

Ilea's first and largest moon, Icsioth is in a synchronis orbit with Ilea, meaning that it is always in the darkside of the planet. It has incredibly large deposits of iron ore, as well as diamonds, tin, alluminium, and other metals. Thus, it is home to one of the largest mining colonies in the system

Secundus

As the name implies, Secundus is the second planet of the system. Similar to Mars in most respects, the planet is large and covered completely in Iron Oxide (rust). Secundus has recently been the target of extensive terraforming, and several large hydroponics facilites cover large portions of the planet, and grow numerous crops. It is the main agriculture planet in the system. It has seven moons.

Soyoa

Soyoa is completely covered in ice, with extensive fresh-water oceans beneath the thick ice. Several huge plants operate here, harvesting its near endless water for use in the space-cities.

Vista Prime

Vista Prime, the third planet, is also one of the three naturally habitable planets in the system. The planet is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful sights in the sector. Two huge rings of meteoroids and ice loop the planet, causing regular meteor showers in the evening that set the sky ablaze, though cause no damage. A temperate planet, Vista has numerous different climates, ranging from tropical at the equator and ice tundra at the poles. It has two super-continents, one is mainly temperate, spanning from north to south pole, while the other lies on the equator and is primarily tropical. Gold and silver are in abundous supply here, as well as platinum, litterally covering the ground in some places. While half the planet is a gigantic mining complex, the other is protected as a wild-life park, and none but scientists studing animals enter it. It has a single large moon.

Haven

Haven is similar to Vista in most respects, it is habitable, contains a great deal of natural resources, and is a huge animal preserve and mining complex. However, Haven has no rings, and instead has eleven moons, all various colors.

Abeteya

Abeteya is a military factory, manufacturing weapons, armor, and ship components for the Parlimian armed forces. It is a major strategic asset, and is heavily defended. The moon is always visable, thanks to the sheer number of forges and factories active at all times, and casts a pale glow upon Haven.

Odomea

Odomea, the largest moon of Haven, is home to the Marine and Fleet Academies, sprawling training grounds were most Military cadets are trained. Like Abeteya, it is heavily protected.

Aru Major

Aru Major is home to a top secret weapons lab. Heavily defended, and with planetary guns that would have no problem knocking out most capships (strange for a moon), very few know what goes on here.

Aru Minor

Headquarters for both the Marine Corps and Fleet are located here, as well as the largest planet-based military base in the system.

Decimus

Decimus, the fifth planet in the system, is also the largest. A gas-giant consisting of mostly helium and hydrogen, Decimus is home to numerous gas-harvesting orbiting plants. Due to the massive amounts of highly flammable gasses, Decimus is completely surrounded by shielding, and travel around the planet is restricted. Should the gasses be ignited, the planet would be destroyed by the fleet (who most certainly do not want another sun in the middle of the system). Decimus has no moons.

Tashir

Tashir, another gas giant (although made up of considerably less flammable gasses) is an important planet in itself, however, it is home to the Great Forge. The Great Forge is a gargantuan array of shipyards of different shapes and sizes, and is where all Naval vessels are constructed. The area is a protected military area, and extremely high traffic. Also here is an equally large Starside R&D center where new ships are designed and old ones refitted. Possibly the most important installation in the entire system, Tashir is heavily defended beyond anything else. It has no moons.

Isoriha (Hobbes)

Isoriha is the only evidence in the Horizon System of an alien culture that once spanned the entire sector. The planet is radioactive (still in the midst of a great nuclear winter), apparently the victim of a civil war that ended in nuclear war of sorts. Nevertheless, several cities still stand, home to technologies strange and foreign to Parlim. Once called Hobbes by the Federals, a recent survey team unearthed a data module with the planet's actual name, Isoriha. Exploration here is tightly regulated by the government, only a handful of teams have ever set foot here. Military clearence is required to get anywhere near here, or one of many guns placed in orbit will open fire without hesitation. There is a large meteor field around the planet consistant with that of moon fragments, suggesting that all of Isoriha's moons were destroyed.

Arune

Arune, the eighth planet, has no important resource or base on it. There is nothing here worth coming to see, a grey unremarkable dust covers the surface, and it has four moons.

Incendia

Covered in molten rock, metal and volcanoes, Incendia is similar to Ilea, except that humans can survive there with the proper enviromental suits. Large forges exist here, collecting the molten metal, shaping it, then shiping it off to the Great Forge. It has several moons, none of them of great importance.

Asote

Jirudo

Jirudo is an ice world, and the third of the three habitable planets. No one lives on the surface, however an artifical ring circling the planet is an incredibly important trade station, called the Great Harbor, and is regarded as the gateway to the Horizon System
