A Brief History of Penguindoms

On November 16, 2006 the Free Land of Penguindoms founded the great region of Penguin to be a safe-haven for penguins. Penguindoms asks that all nations follow the one rule: Do not harbor leopard seals or polar bears.

The nation of Penguindoms was founded by members of the former Penguin Liberation Organization (PLO), a political party that sought greater representation and protections for penguins.

In late July of 2006, food was scarce after one of the coldest winters on record. Polar Bears and Leopard Seals formed a military pact and marched on Penguinopolis. Despite the greater number of penguins, they were forced to retreat from three coastal villages in the defeat of the "Battle of Hungry Friday." With half their territory lost, and nearly one quarter of their population missing in action or eaten, the PLO called for an emergency session of Congress. When their demands for military support were flatly turned down, they gathered what little fish we had and set off for better waters.

The journey was treacherous. They met swift resistance from seals and sharks as they crossed the Antarctic Ocean. When General Rockhopper's forces were victorious against a school of tuna fish at the "Battle of the Berg", the surviving penguins set up camp on The Iceberg and waited out the rest of winter. When the blizzards finally subsided, General Little Blue's brigade first spotted fry land on November 16, 2006, and The Free Land of Penguindoms was founded.

Senator Gentoo, a former ranking Senator of the PLO, called for the formation of a new government. Soon after, Senator Gentoo was unanimously elected to the presidency of Penguindoms. In an attempt to prevent a repeat of the "Hungry Friday War," He immediately contacted other nations of penguins and asked if they wished to relocate to the region of "Penguin." President Gentoo was met with warm receptions and praise. Now over 30 nations and 22,114,000,000 penguins call "Penguin" home.
