National Animal
The national animal of Pennwood is the prismatic pseudodragon. This rare creature exists in few places in the world, and Pennwood is one such place. Normally shy but mischievous, the prismatic pseudodragon is intelligent and will associate with people that have good intentions. It can communicate via speech, and it has a limited form of empathic telepathy.
The prismatic pseudodragon is roughly the same size as a large house cat. Its body structure is similar to that of a European dragon, with a long neck, four legs, a long tail, and two wings located above the front legs. The claws on the front legs function like primate hands. The wings of a prismatic peudodragon are remarkably strong and nimble; the little dragons can fly long distances and perform intricate aerial maneuvers.
Unlike its larger cousins, a prismatic pseudodragon does not breathe fire. It can puff out a cloud of fog-like mist, which often is used to obscure its departure.
A prismatic pseudodragon is covered from snout to tail, wing tip to claw tip, with scales. These scales refract light (as a prism does). When illuminated, a prismatic pseudodragon shimmers with all the colors of a rainbow. In dimly lit situations, the scales appear silvery gray.
