The Democratic Republic of Pracowity

The Democratic Republic of Pracowity is a relatively tiny, but growing nation, innitially the first colony of the Republic of Poland. When the population reached 5 million though, the colony declared independence, and, pressured by the United Nations, Poland granted Pracowity unconditional independence. As of today, both nations still retain good relations.

Government

The government of Pracowity is composed of a Parliament and the Prime Minister. The Parliament, every year elected by the people, is composed of 7 members, each one from one of the 7 districts of Pracowity. If needed, in each district, a majority of the people can impeach their Parliament Member and elect a new one. This government system, so far, works extremely well, thanks to the still small population of Pracowity.

The Prime Minister is elected from 7 candidates, each chosen by the people in each district, and voted into office by the Parliament. Every day, the Parliament and Prime Minister gather to discuss a new law the Prime Minister shall put forward. He will be given at most 15 minutes to explain why he chose this law and why the Parliament should vote for it. After the Prime Minister finishes, Parliament gathers in secret to discuss the law and vote for or against it. This process may take 5 minutes, or it may take an hour, but so far, no law has taken over a day to discuss and vote for.

In times of emergency and war, Parliament can vote the Prime Minister "emergency powers", turning him into a virtual dictator, where he can impliment the laws without Parliament approval.. Aided by the military staff in times of war, the Prime Minister is the commander-in-chief of the armed forces. Once the war or emergency is averted, the Prime Minister gives up his dictatoral powers and the government process continues as normal.

Economy

The economy of Pracowity seems to follow radical socialism, or a different kind of communism. Private enterprise is illegal, and the government is beginning to employ it's excellent police force to eliminate the black market that still runs rampant in the country. The people, however, are generally happy with this type of economy.

The government always provides the basic necessities of life for every person. A medium sized house, a daily income of food, basic luxuries such as a TV, and yet people are allowed to buy more food, furniture, or luxuries if they wish. This idea generally does not work, but because the people of Pracowity support this idea, they follow it well, keeping things running smoothly, and the police force dealing with anyone not following the law of life in Pracowity.

Military

Pracowity, unfortunately, has no real military. The best thing that could constitute as such is the police force, a militia force if you will, which is currently handling more crime as the government inches closer and closer to true communism. There have been rumors, however, of the government passing some laws toward the creation of a small military, to better protect Pracowity. The people have been hesitant so far, but they are seriously considering it.
