Princess Anna of Alessandri
|
Her Royal Highness Princess Anna of Alessandri (Anna Luisa Elisabeth Mary Charlotte Viktoria), (September 23, 1646 - August 11, 1650) waas the fourth child of King Eduard IV and Queen Frances of Alessandri. She was the twin sister of King Eduard V.
Childhood
The birth of twins, a boy, followed by a girl six minutes later, was announced at the Neues Palais on September 23, 1646, the third and fourth children of King Eduard IV and Queen Frances. Their christening, on October 12, was a spectacular affair, attended by the majority of the noble houses of Alessandri. The boy was given the names Eduard Wolfgang Friedrich Christian Waldemar, the first to honor not only his father and grandfather, but his stillborn elder brother, while his sister was christened Anna Luisa Elisabeth Mary Charlotte Viktoria.
Princess Anna, like her twin brother Eduard, was a cheerful and outgoing child. Unlike most of her siblings, she inherited her personality from her father's side of the family rather than her mother's.
Death
Several months before her fourth birthday, Anna developed a fever. She had trouble walking and talking, and became very fussy, even irritable, towards her nursemaids. Her once hearthy appetite diminished until she had to be force fed her meals. She began crying and complaining of stomach pains, and her father wrote that "little Anna, who has been ill for some time has seemed to have developed rose spots."
Anna's symptoms began in early July of 1850. By August 11 of that year, she had succumed to what was diagnosed as typhoid fever. Her twin brother, Eduard, once a cheerful child, became sullen and withdrawn after his sister's death.
