The Militocracy

The Rethast Militocracy covers all of the planet Rethan, having removed rival nations from its path in a series of bloody and costly wars. While born of violence, the Rethast Militocracy currently has no wish expand beyond its own planet until the Democratic Republic of Martoch is destroyed and the entire planet is under Rethast control.

History of the Militocracy

The Reign of Johann Sartani

Until the year 2011, the Militocracy of Rethan was known as the Empire of Rethan and the planet was known not as Rethan (to the inhabitants anyway) but as Ataster. The ruling family of Rethan were the Sartani family. They had ruled for one hundred and twenty years, and were relatively well liked for the larger portion of it. However, during the year 2010 Johann Sartani became the new emperor and instantly began a reign of terror. Thousands were taken by his secret police for being suspected of Treason.

Johann was very adept at hiding his exploits from the other nations of Ataster, and when his people began rebelling, he called on the other nations to help him suppress the riots. The combined military might of over twenty nations marched into Rethan and crushed the rebellion. Sartani once again had total control over the people, and the Rethast prayed for a saviour.

The Lentar Rebellion

Their prayers were answered when a young General, named Alaitar Lentar, gathered the Rethast army to him and plotted another rebellion. This time however, he waited until he was sure he could make his move without other nations intervening. He waited a whole year.

And in 2011, his chance came when a military parade was to march outside the Imperial Palace. Sartani himself was going to be watching. Lentar had all the soldiers switch the blanks in their guns to real rounds just before the march. At exactly 1:30 in the afternoon, Sartani appeared on his balcony, the people gathered unaware of what was going to happen, and the march began.

At his command, the Rethast soldiers turned and charged the Imperial Palace guard. Caught unprepared and unarmed, the guard were quickly killed and Sartani was trapped in his office. He committed suicide with a letter opener before the rebels could reach him.

The Lentar Family from 2011-2020

The international community was appalled at the rebellion and would not listen to Alaitar’s explanations. They did nothing however, the most severe punishment being placing embargoes on Rethan.

For nine years, Alaitar Lentar ruled the people of Rethan fairly, but when he saw the military build up of the other nations on his borders in 2019, he began to fear for his country’s security. Immediately, Lentar began a massive build up of the Rethast Armed forces. Weapons were pumped out of the factories at almost godly rates and recruitment offices were packed with young Rethast eager to fight. They were ready for any attack.

But in 2020, Alaitar Lentar died from cancer. The Rethast suffered a tremendous blow to morale, and feared an attack from the other nations in their moment of weakness.

2020-2040: The Ataster War

Full article: The Ataster War

Sure enough the other nations of Ataster made preparations to strike as soon as news reached them of Lentar’s death. But before any invasions could make way, Alaitar’s son, Scalan Lentar came to power and reorganised the Rethast armies.

The armies of Ataster were repelled, and in their fury, the Rethast pursued them and won a string of victories, wiping out two whole nations and reducing the remaining 13 to mere annoyances.

2041-2100: The Age of Prosperity

The Rethast were now the ultimate power on Ataster, and their population exploded from 20 million to one hundred million in ten years. Scientific strides were made, and the Rethast quickly became the most technologically advanced people on Ataster. Following the death of Scalan in 2090, his son Metar became the new Premier of Rethan. But the peace was not to last for long.

2113: The Formation of Martoch

The remaining people of Ataster, believing that they must win back Ataster from the Rethast, formed a new nation of all their people combined. They named this nation Martoch, meaning “Justice” in the language of the most powerful founder.

Martoch knew their military could not match the Rethast in a fair fight, and so made preparations to flee the planet that had been their home for so long. It is important to note that in Martoch teachings, it is said that the Rethast forced them from the planet. This is not so, the Rethast were quite content to live alongside the Martochians, and only made aggressive movements towards them as they left the planet.

When the Martochians left, the Rethast grew concerned and pursued them into space, in an attempt to reform friendly negotiations. The Martochians misinterpreted this as an aggressive threat and fired on the two Rethast Imperator ships in pursuit. When the Rethast fled back to their home planet, the Admiral of the Martochian fleet gave chase. Unwilling to land on the planet, he made a choice which cost him his job and the Rethast their lives. He chem-bombed the planet.

2114-2402: The Apocalypse

The chemical bombs destroyed the planet’s ecosystem, reducing it from a mix of fertile lands and forests to nothing but dirt and wastelands. The chemicals tainted the atmosphere with vaporized Sulphuric Acid and ruined the protective ability of it. The Acid burned the lungs, skin and eyes of the Rethast and the radiation pouring in from the sun caused the Rethast people to lose all their body hair and their children to be born with deformities.

For just under three hundred years the Rethast fought for their lives, their numbers dropping from 3 billion to under 200 million. Their technology helped them adapt and labs forced the evolution of themselves and many other animals on the planet to go into overdrive.

In time, life on the planet adapted and mutated to suit the new atmosphere. The Rethast began to grow their hair back, but it never grew long and was always white. Moreover, the mutation had caused them (and every living thing on Atasten) to become larger and physically stronger than humans. Now they could take a bullet to the chest and survive, they were immune to diseases which would kill a human. In the year 2402, the ruler of the Rethast - Handac Lentar - declared his people no longer human. He declared them a new species, the Rethast.

2403-Present Day

The Rethast became obsessed with the destruction of the Martochian people and their military boomed. Their Space Armada became second to none, and their technology allowed massive improvements in weaponry. They were ready to see out the destruction of their enemies, safe in the knowledge that no other race could safely attack them due to the high levels of Radiation and acidic air of their homeworld, no longer called Atastern, but renamed now to Rethan.
