Riokian War

The Riokian War was a war fought between the members of the Flying Nation in the Sky. It began as a playful threat of invasion by Octavius which was misinterpreted as a declaration of war by Rioki. Rioki then recruited UN nations to aid him in the upcoming war. The FNS quickly divided itself into two factions and engaged in the war. However, the war promptly ended with the Treaty of Riokianai.

The Misunderstanding

On May 3rd, 2005, large nation of Octavius Paenite threatened to declare war on the massive nation of Rioki over Rioki's membership in the UN. While Octavius was only joking when he made the threat, Rioki interpreted it as a declaration of war. He immediately sent out a call to the UN, asking for nations to assist him in the coming conflict. Within hours, he had begun organizing with several other nations. In the mean time, Rioki entered negotiations with Octavius.

Preparations

The next day, troops from the mid-sized nation of Space Union, and the tiny nations of Ergoth and Zealonia arrived in Rioki territory, offering themselves as allies to Rioki. Octavius decided that although his original comment was made in jest, he would follow through with the war anyways. He posted a list of grievances with the UN and declared that unless Rioki reject these UN resolutions by leaving the UN, he would declare war. In retaliation, Rioki began mobilizing his forces.

The Ducassi Incident

A tiny nation called Ducassi entered the situation with a bang. The leader of Ducassi threatened Rioki's capital with nuclear and chemical missiles, despite the fact that his nation obviously had neither. Despite his total lack of said weaponry, he thought that he would be able to enter the war on Octavius's side and hold the other UN nations at bay with threats of nuclear war. After pressed by all nations involved, he quickly revealed that he did not in fact have nuclear weapons, however, he still claimed that he had half the earlier number of chemical weapons. In addition, he now claimed that he had terrorists and guerrilla fighters in his employ. The nation of Space Union then threatened him with invasion if he continued his aggressive tactics.

Ducassi then sent out a message stating that one of his terrorist groups had blown up five of the banks in Space Union's capital and was now holding an office building hostage, despite the fact that all of the banks in Space Union's capital were still standing and no terrorist activity had taken place in the capital. After being educated about this fact, he then claimed that only two banks were blown up and told them their independently confirmed evidence was wrong. In addition, Ducassi declared that both sides were bound to start a cold war and declared himself as a peace keeping force. He withdrew his non-existent terrorists from Space Union and his fictitious supplies from Octavius. In addition, he claimed to have set bombs in all capitals, despite the lack of terrorist activities or hostile bombs in any of the countries. In addition, he claimed that these bombs were absolutely impossible to deactivate, despite the experienced bomb squads in possession by many of the nations. Octavius disavowed any relation to Ducassi and the UN forces proceeded to ignore his empty threats. Sure enough, Ducassi never made any physical contribution to the war.

Escalation

The next day, May 5 2005, the nation of Walther Atkinson joined Octavius in an alliance against Rioki, and the two nations began immediate mobilization. In addition, James Katt, leading the new nation of Purple Pandas Mark II, joined Rioki. Later that day, the small nation of Trolsk sent troops to Rioki's aid. Soon afterwards, the mid-sized nation of A Crazy Wacko Redhead joined Octavius and Walther and the three nations formed the Inquisitorial Triumverate. For three tense days, militaries mobilized and negotiations escalated. Negotiations soon broke down and Octavius's massive ships took to the skies above the FNS. In the mean time, Rioki lowered his nation to below the FNS, and waited for the Inquisitorial Triumverate to make the first move.

Seeing Octavius's Titans, Trolsk called for his own Titan ships. The UN forces soon received another boon when the mid-sized nation of small nation of Findan and the new nation of Farangordasch. However, Findan only sent naval forces, which then were confined to vigilantly patrolling the water below the FNS while the war continued in the skies above. In addition, Farangordasch's forces were highly overstated (this proved to be a dramatic typo in the official messages sent to Rioki) and Trolsk soon withdrew his forces from the conflict.

The Invasion

The invasion began on the 11th of May when Octavius's ships began bombarding Rioki's forces. Soon after, they disgorged millions of Red's conscripts using poor parachutes, which quickly led roughly 12 million of these Mad Miners to their deaths, the other 18 million being scattered around the country with orders to live off the land and cause as much trouble as possible. In addition, Octavius landed the main ground forces of the Inquisitorial Triumverate; Red's medieval Redheadian Guard and Wild Blondes, Walther's WAMS conscript soldiers, and Octavius's own mechanized army at the border of the nation. Walther's Stormtroopers were dropped deep into Riokian territory.

As the advance troops landed, Rioki's forces shredded them with anti-air fire and began to engage the main forces. In the skies, the air forces of Rioki and Purple Pandas battled with Octavius's Titans. Although Rioki's other UN allies stayed at their posts for the entirety of the war, Space Union's troops bravely stopped Walther's Stormtroopers near the Riokian capital. For two weeks, the respective forces clashed in Rioki, however, the war was suddenly brought to an end.

The Treaty

On May 25th, Rioki negotiated a treaty with the Inquisitorial Triumverate. The participants agreed to end the war as long as all members of the FNS would withdraw from the UN. All nations soon complied and all official troops were withdrawn from Rioki's territory, except for the Redheadian Guard who were forced to remain behind in order to gather up the Mad Miner and Wild Blonde forces scattered around Rioki.

The Aftermath

Over the next month, the Redheadian Guard, with the help of Red's secret police, attempted to round up the Mad Miners and Wild Blondes in Rioki, however, the Wild Blondes were proving extremely difficult to control and many of the Mad Miners had decided to forsake their loyalty to A Crazy Wacko Redhead. In the ensuing bloodshed, all the Mad Miners or Wild Blondes were either captured or killed and returned to A Crazy Wacko Redhead. It is believed that six million died in this action, mostly Mad Miners who refused to surrender and were slaughtered by Red's forces. In addition, Red was compelled to pay large reparations from the war damage done by his Mad Miners. Although the budget of A Crazy Wacko Redhead suffered a considerable hit from this, Red sold the recovered Mad Miners into corporate slavery to recoup his losses. This action, along with the large decrease in unemployment due to conscription, made up for the costs of the war.

Rioki soon reconnected his nation to the FNS and brought his population back from the space colonies. However, Rioki was still nervous about Octavius's close presence, and pressured him into leaving the FNS. Octavius joined the Red Army, however, he would return under Perditions Peace in 2007.

The war itself was actually a rather bloodless affair, with few casualties on each side due to the focus on negotiations between the two forces. The majority of the ~18 million was from Red's callous slaughter of his conscript Mad Miners during the initial invasion and during the cleanup. The deaths of the 12 million Mad Miners during the invasion were later found to be a result of faulty parachutes, which Red used instead of superior models in order to shave costs for the war.
