The Green Collective Institute of Ritson is a massive, environmentally stunning nation, notable for its punitive income tax rates. Its hard-nosed, cynical population of 3.065 billion are ruled by a mostly-benevolent dictator, who grants the populace the freedom to live their own lives but watches carefully for anyone to slip up.
It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Defence, and Education. The average income tax rate is 100%. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising fourteen-year-old boys selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out.
Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Ritson's national animal is the Sheeplike Frog, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the kilojoule.
A Brief History of the Nation of Ritson
Mother ?BC – 1200AD The nation of Ritson has flourished since it was formed several years ago after separating itself from a larger Empire known only as Mother. Ancient texts suggest that a ruler called a Radix headed Mother and it was under the rule of Radix Nicholas II that the nation of Ritson was granted freedom. It is suggested that soon after Mother divided up into other smaller contingencies and these are the countries seen in SWGB Heaven today. Many fanatics and political parties believe in the reunification of SWGB Heaven and the return of the Mother Empire with a Radix driving the wheel although any unification within SWGB Heaven is not going to happen soon.
Early Years 1200AD - 1980 Soon after Ritson was released from the grip of Mother it began to develop more than before and certain technological advancements led to military achievements that gained a lot more territory off of Mother. However, these victories were short lived as Ritson soon found itself without government and leader and Mother was able to reclaim the land.
The first true leader of Ritson was undoubtedly King Ritson I as that is where then name Ritson is derived. He led a series of successful campaigns to bring unification to Ritson and unfortunately died before he could see his Kingdom complete.
King Ritson II, his son, succeeded the throne and managed to lead a long line of Monarchs throughout 700 peaceful years.
The Empire 1980-2003 Several weeks after the coronation of King Poli IV he was assassinated and had no heir. This led Supreme Commander Ritson (a descendant of the old Royal Family) to use the army to form a new form of government under his rule. He would rule under Imperial terms and forged the Holy Empire of Ritson. Emperor Ritson (the title he assumed) expanded Ritson territory beyond the borders of the Ritson Island and onto the SWGB Heaven mainland continent. Strict martial law was instated and as the economy flourished civil and political rights diminished. Not that there were many political rights under the Monarchy anyway.
Civil War July-December 2003 Twenty or so years after the Empire was formed many political activists arose with new ideas of Democracy and Socialism. Soon people wanted more freedoms off the government and they spat on the pictures of the Emperor. Eventually key cities of Ritson were under control of the Rebel Democrats. A bloody civil war raged on and eventually the Emperor maintained control again.
Victory was short lived for the Empire though as the Emperor was killed by his back stabbing advisors who had sided with the Rebels. Emperor Ritson II, the Emperor’s son was placed as ‘puppet’ Emperor. Ritson II could was not a stable leader and eventually the Rebels gained the upper hand and revolution took place. The Ritson Democracy was born.
Democracy December 2003-April 2005 The democratic era of Ritson was filled with many political parties taking the throne. Mostly it was the socialist party that won most votes at the beginning. Then parties that held office include: a Conservative party, a Communist party, a Communist Police State Party, a Green Party. The democratic years saw a rise in a new enemy: Anti-Ritson. Anti-Ritson was Ritson’s first foreign enemy and it was a state that set up on the SWGB Heaven mainland just north of the Ritson Island. It proclaimed a strong policy of ‘true’ socialism and accused Ritson of being a twisted, corrupt oligarchy that sought to crush civil rights. Several skirmishes ensued until Anti-Ritson collapsed. The last party of the democratic era was the Green Party which had strong concerns about the environment and forced people to live in forests. Soon after the establishment of the Green Collective Institute of Ritson (as it was named) Chawerios (a nation that has switched from ally to enemy several times) was suspicious of the new policies. After about a month, the nation of Ritson just vanished. All the people and buildings just disappeared in April 2005 leaving an empty Ritson island.
Time Travel April 2005-Present The disappearance of the Ritsonians meant that Chawerios could take the upper hand an occupy the Ritson Island to exploit the rich resources there. Thus, the colony of Occupied Ritson was born. Merely three days after this a nation emerged called Ritto. It claimed itself to be anti-Ritson and anti-Chawerios. It proclaimed freedom was its top priority and soon it’s civil rights were a world benchmark. Originally, Ritto was situated on the Ritson island taking up about half of Occupied Ritson. However, when Chawerios threatened military action Ritto evacuated to a conglomerate of islands to the South East of Ritson.
Two weeks after the disappearance, the citizens of Ritson returned on a massive floating fortress housing 3 billion people wanting to return to their homeland which was now occupied by Chawerios and ravaged by war (a campaign had begun to take Ritson for Ritto’s side, with the Dominion of Illuminated Communism leading the assault of Chawerian fortifications).
The explanation for the disappearance is that Ritson had been working on time travel experiments and in a massive disaster with unknown causes a surge of time travel energy engulfed the nation transporting everyone into the future by an unknown number of years.
The Ritson citizens had ended up in a post-apocalyptic SWGB Heaven. They began to rebuild their society and were a great superpower in the world. This was due to the fact that their technology hadn’t been lost in the time travel whereas the inhabitants of Earth had been ravaged by Armageddon and all their technology was lost. Eventually, after several millennia, Ritson rediscovered time travel and constructed the giant hovering fortress to take them back to two weeks after their disappearance. Presently (or at the time this was written – April 26th 2005), Ritson is poised for attack on Chawerios and other nations stationed on the Ritson Island. With their superior technology they hope to wipe out any that stand in their way. Ritson citizens are tired of life on board a giant, floating island.
HOWEVER, A BOMB WAS SENT BACK IN TIME TO DESTROY THE RITSON EXPERIMENTS WITH TIME TRAVEL THUS KEEPING THE NATION THE WAY IT WAS AS THE GREEN COLLECTIVE INSTITUTE.
